Powder, Perfume and Face Wash – oh my!

I finished 4 products in the last 2 weeks. Amazing I know. So not me.

IMG_1433And guess what: I haven’t bought replacements yet!

*pats self on back*

I also haven’t received any replacements from the office! Can you believe it? I actually have enough products at home to survive without acquiring more. No surprise there though, huh? I am pretty sure you could all imagine that I gather and hoard too many products at home – but I must have shocked all of you by actually, finally getting round to using them 😉

What will become of me?!

On to some very dear to me products I will definitely be missing in my quest to be more economical:

Farewell, old trusted friend. My morning routine will not be the same without you…

I have yet to find an appropriate successor/replacement that really meets Clarins’ Energizing Cleansing Gel’s standards. Sure, it might just be the placebo effect, but I do find it has “wake-up” qualities… all of the other products I own are just plain old cleansers. siiiigh. I guess I will have to make do with just their Energizing Lotion, but I cannot guarantee not caving and buying enough to last me a lifetime when that one runs out. Oh the things I do to keep me sane 😉

Now this I am never worried about running out of. I always have at least 4 bottles of the Body Shop’s Brazil Nut Body Mist (it is my (inexpensive) signature scent after all). I keep one at the office, one in my room in Munich, one in my purse and one in Zürich. Oh actually I have (after finishing this bottle “had”) 6: I have backups stored away at home too.

Moving on..

I have finally finished a compact powder! Those things never seem to end. And if I am brutally honest I doubt I would’ve ever finished it if I hadn’t been super clumsy (as always) and dropped the whole entire thing on to marble floors… leaving a crumbly, powdery mess and a few salvaged pieces of the (partially used) pressed powder. Maybe it’s time to invest in loose powder? Maybe then an (unavoidable) drop would mean fewer “casualties”?

I actually bought this powder to use underneath my eyes to help seal concealer, but when I moved to Munich, I started using it over my BB Cream on my face as well for a little extra coverage, you know, multi-purposing and all that jazz, so that I could travel “light” and avoid bringing a foundation (which I ended up doing anyways) and my precious Météorites Powder (got one from the office…). I guess that was the advantage of them not having a small size available… you see I originally started using powder over concealer when I bought Bobbi Brown‘s Creamy Conealer Kit. Being the conceal-a-holic that I am, I frequently mixed and matched the various concealers from my collection in an act to try to use them up, but always finished off the look with a pat of powder from this kit. I went to the Bobbi Brown counter in Zürich to buy a replacement powder, but that small size only existed as part of the kit, ergo I bought the larger size…

The colour really matched my skin perfectly, but I will wait to buy another one. I still have a few unopened compact powders to use up and have also started to drift away from the use of powder for a more natural, less cakey look anyways… let’s see what make-up path this one finished product will lead me on .

And finally:

Another oldie but goodie… Clarins Gel Contour des Yeux. This is my second or third bottle that I have finished since my best friend took me to get my skin evaluated at the Clarins counter 3 years ago and if I didn’t already have a few other eye creams to use up at home, I would go ahead and buy another!

Do you have favourite products you can’t live without and thus stock up on them? Or do you switch up the products frequently?

La Petite Robe Noire

You guys.
You wouldn´t believe what I’m doing for the month of March. You have three guesses. I’ll give you a hint: I may be in an office, but I’m surrounded by things I generally spend wads of money on.
Any guesses?
I guess I’ll have to tell you then…
Little old me from this little old beauty blog out of little old Zürich is currently doing an internship for InStyle Beauty. Yup, you heard me, I’ve gone from Blog to Magazine (with a little help from a fairy godmother perhaps) and I will be working here until the clock strikes midnight at the end of the month.
Being an intern for the beauty section of a fashion magazine means it is now my job to smell perfumes, test nail polishes and read about sun care (yes that all happened today, Day 1) :), while also organising the merchandise, the press samples and advertisement in the thousands of folders around my desk. Being an intern I thought I would be the one fetching coffee, but today the only “odd job” I received was to get an electronic toothbrush to work, so we could test how it functions.
You cannot believe how excited I am to be sharing this news with you. I am in heaven. I’m surrounded by EVERYTHING to do with BEAUTY – old products, new products, products that aren’t even on the market, articles about the products, free samples of products; the list goes on and on… I feel very undercover-agenty knowing how they choose products for their latest articles and how they determine what’s good and what isn’t… and what’s going into next month’s Beauty edition!
 I’m mesmerized.
I’m almost equally excited about the nail polish I ‘m writing about for today’s Manicure Monday. It was an impulse purchase well-sold to me while I was picking out a new perfume. I have never bought myself a perfume and decided I had to finally find a signature scent all on my own… but alas, as you all know, I’m an absolute sucker for good salesmanship and cute names, and purchasing the nail polish as well as the perfume was no different a case.
You see, this nail polish is not only very pretty and stylish, it also happens to have the same name as the perfume, which also matches a lipgloss that belongs to the same line (and was sold along with the perfume). Very smart Guerlain, very smart…
Yup, I melted on the spot at the thought of owning matching polish, perfume and lip gloss, all called la Petite Robe Noire. I can feel you all rolling your eyes at me but I felt the urge, to do what well put-together women back in the day used to do i.e. wear matching everything (or so I was told). Somehow I believed that their perfectly-outfitted spirits would somehow inspire me to become more organised. It was a well-meant thought – but as you can imagine, I have yet to wear all three products together.
Nevertheless, I am currently sporting the polish and am quite fond of it. It is slightly darker than my skin tone and also slightly metallic. It’s a fun spring colour, which I can guarantee is totally in at the moment as I saw plenty of women at the office wearing similar shades 🙂 how’s that for being “en vogue”.
IMG_1433The brush is perfectly soft and wide – I barely messed up the manicure and was applying it on the train!
IMG_1436I’m in luuuuuuuurv and will be going back to buy another polish by Guerlain very very soon 😀
IMG_1435I can’t wait for my second day at InStyle! 🙂

Therapy for the Conceal-a-Holic

  • I have fallen hard for these shoes. They are so comfy, I feel like I’m walking on clouds. They’re my little inuit shoes 😀
  • La Vie est Belle and La petite Robe Noire are my two new favourite fragrances. I’m also considering the purchase of Flowerbomb…. 😉
  • I can’t seem to get enough of this songIMG_1319
  • Also, Animal puns.. they’re my new favourite thing!IMG_1318
  • Anyone feel like baking me cookies? These look really good…please?
  • I have a new favourite author. Do you know her?  I want to be her. Seriously! I own all her books and have devoured them in the shortest time ever!
  • Speaking of books.. I wish my life were like Angela Clark’s. I mean.. I don’t necessarily want to catch my boyfriend cheating and break my best friend’s new husband’s hand with a Louboutin..but the rest – I want the rest. Is that too much to ask?
  • I NEED this eyeliner.. but really though. I seem to go through eyeliners so much more lately..It’s my new thing!

Have a great Saturday!
