Manicure Monday – It’s my Year & Teenage Dream

Happy Monday dearest beauties!

I’m keeping it short and simple today, as I still need to finish an assignment! But I am thrilled to finally be sharing a manicure with you guys! But first, let me show you the nail polishes I commented on for Madame Magazine

IMG_0180

Some of those were written by MOI 🙂 I am especially in love with the Louboutin polish.. sigh

So on with my manicure:

IMG_4227

Do you remember slightly less than a year ago I mentioned getting my nails done with friends. I also mentioned I would be purchasing that very polish by OPI immediately that evening. Well folks, let me present to you a proud acquirement to my polish-possession: It’s my Year, by OPI.

IMG_4228

I also varnished my second finger on the left with “Teenage Dream”, which is part of the Katy Perry collection, also by OPI, and reversed the manicure for my right hand. I guess my strain of thought during the process of doing my nails was: It took me 4 weeks to finally do this, might as well go to town and use 2 colours.

IMG_4228

I am in awe of both colours. They are both so sparkly. Sparkly is good, sparkly makes me happy…

IMG_4231

Gold, purple, pink and silver… match made in heaven

IMG_4230

Without a top coat, the colour has held relatively well over the course of the week, especially “It’s my year” (the purple-hued one)

IMG_4233

IMG_4232

definitely a favourite – definitely a purchase I will never regret and one that is filled with memories of walks through the leaves to the beauty parlour and long talks at Slave to the Grind with a steaming mug full of pumpkin spiced coffee…. Bronxville really is a cute place to live, and I need to make sure to visit my friends at SLC sometime soon…

Memories… memories..

Anyhoo back to work! Wishing you all a beautiful Monday!

Tomorrow is where my Book begins..

Think of me tomorrow at 10 am guys, for that is when I will be taking my very first university lecture at Uni ZH 🙂 After last week’s lengthy recap, I am keeping today’s nice and short! My weekend started on Thursday, after orientation, and was quite low-key but a great way to start the school year. I’ve been enjoying these link-ups, for I just noticed in the car earlier while trying to tell my dad about my weekend, that I sometimes forget what amazing things I actually accomplished…

As for Manicure Mondays, well, I haven’t forgotten about them, I just haven’t really been doing my nails at all lately. This week I am sporting “Make him Mine“, by OPI on my little fingers and toes and “Chicago Champagne Toast” on the rest of my fingernails (I promise to redo the manicure and post it next week, but I didn’t do a very good job this time). I did my nails as a last-minute decision on Saturday afternoon before passing out post-stretching, which is why my nails are not in the right condition to be photographed…But more on that later.

MiMM

Thursday, after orientation, I decided to not go to dance (shocker) and had drinks with some new-found friends (and some very close, old ones) on campus.

IMG_1812

Afterwards, I had plans to go eat sushi at Barfüsser and FINALLY remembered to take pictures!

IMG_1805

I started eating fish a few months ago, and am slowly starting to call myself a (paleo) pescatarian. At home I still cook mainly vegan, because that’s just what I crave most, but when I am out and I feel like fish, I order it. And that night, I really wanted the Sesame Tempura Roll: Black Tiger prawn tempura, mayo, sesame outside (copied from the menu). I was often offered to try a piece when my friends got it and always found it amazing, so was really looking forward to ordering it myself, but eating an entire roll yourself is a whole other experience – In all honestly, I preferred receiving the odd piece when my friends were full because you really got to savour the delicacy. Having 8 pieces of something so exquisite makes it less special somehow. So please someone share it with me next time?

IMG_1804

I also had the Avocado Nigiri and shared a Rainbow Roll (I don’t really like raw tuna so just ate the salmon).

IMG_1802

My friends had Avocado Maki and a California Roll. I was the only one who pigged out, but I was also having a hungry day. Do you guys get that too? A super hungry day, especially when you don’t work out?

IMG_1807IMG_1809

After dinner, I had drinks with my best friend and decided spontaneously to go to Nachtseminar at Plaza – it was Thursday after all 😉

Fun Fact: This Wednesday I will be handing out flyers for that party outside the Uni, that’s how much I love it 🙂

Friday I noticed I was coming down with a cold, and decided to play it safe and not workout, which meant that I yet again had “found an excuse” to not go to dance class…. sad really…so I stayed home, roasted more squash, and then met a friend at Starbucks for a Soy Matcha Green Tea Latte and some girl talk. While sitting there, I ran into some old school friends… it’s good to be home 🙂

After tea, we bought a fuzzy scarf at Zara and had dinner at Hiltl. Then I bought another Kabocha squash. I think I might have a problem…

IMG_3689

Saturday I got up early and bought some last-minute school supplies and some groceries. Then I went to my usual stretching class, painted my nails and passed out. This is when I noticed that my flu was still around.. I was exhausted and just wanted to SLEEP.

Later I met my mom’s godson for dinner at Nagasui and then head out to the club “Härterei” for the party “Nasty Trash”. I had taken a video on Snapchat, but managed to forget to save it…. it was a great night but I left “early” and was in bed by 2.30 am! So unlike me 😉

On Sunday I picked up this Fluffy thing.

IMG_1814

I got to dog-sit him for a night and spent loads of time playing with and cuddling this living fur-ball while trying to overcome my cold. It was a beautiful day and I was thus very thankful to have this little guy as a reason to enjoy the sunshine every few hours and not spend the entire day curled up in bed watching 30 rock, feeling sorry for myself.

IMG_1815

I got my act together around 3 and head to Bodypump though. It was the last time doing release 90! I am so proud of my gains during the squat and chest tracks, that I cannot wait to master release 91.

IMG_1813IMG_1811

Today I had the day off and spent the morning in my pyjamas, enjoying my last few hours of “no studying” a.k.a watching 30 rock and eating MORE SQUASH (I can’t believe I haven’t turned orange yet). In the afternoon I went to town for some juice with my BFF and then came home for more dog-walking, squash-eating and uni-preparing. I can now officially say my room is GORGEOUS! My closet however is a different story… I guess that is next on the to-do list.

I hope you had a great weekend too! I’ll speak to you after my first day (I already have some fun posts planned). Wish me luck!

Street Parade Zürich

Confession:

My life has been overwhelming lately. So overwhelming, that I have a never-ending, ever-growing to do list that gives me the creeps with every quick check… and I also have an increasingly chaotic room back home that should have been tackled and cleaned-out long ago (like before I even thought of leaving for New York last YEAR (I also still haven’t changed my light-bulb….)).

The fact that I put all the “important” things off to be dealt with when in Zürich does not help either. I mean, the things I have to do are all things I could easily complete in Munich from the safety of my own (similarly messy) bedroom. But Munich has become this “non-real” place to me, a place I will be leaving in 2 short weeks, and where I never really attempted to settle in let alone get stuff done because I know I will be returning to my actual life and to “normal me” (as my best friend put it when I spoke to her on the phone on Friday) immediately after my internship.

“Munich me” survives off of peanut butter at my desk, eggs with spinach (green eggs?) and curries, goes to the gym nearly every night and often forgets to use body lotion or a face serum simply due to lack of discipline and energy (the horror, I know). She doesn’t blog often enough, or take frequent pictures, and is constantly overwhelmed by the amount of stuff she technically wants to get done, so she continuously writes a reminder for “Zürich me” to do when back in the real world, i.e. home, i.e where my actual life is.

But you see, what happens when I enter “real world Zürich me” is, I finally get to see my friends, spend too much time cooking because I can’t really do that in Munich and basically get nothing done because I am either: food shopping, eating, out with friends, at my favourite dance class or enjoying the comfort of having a big bed with plenty of wiggle room (if I rolled over in Munich I would land on the floor, on top of shoes and my lap-top).

Problem here: Knowing I only have 2 days to organize things I had been putting off for the rest of the week, I enter a state of even more desperation to get things done and ultimately get NOTHING done because I end up diving deeper under my covers and binge watching Dharma and Greg (which I sadly just finished, so of course immediately began with Weeds). It is a vicious circle I can’t seem to break out of…I mean, I am generally such an organized, do things immediately kind of person, that this “vacation” from needing to use my brain has been kinda nice, but also very tormenting… wish me luck that I can actually get back to “normal” and resume “Zürich me” characteristics ASAP!

Now, having pounced a rather lengthy intro on you, I am finally getting to the point. That being: I haven’t blogged about enough things lately (mainly fun weekend adventures) and will now attempt to cram as much info in to as little words as possible, all of which will be making this long overdue post an absolutely marvelous one!

A few weekends ago, the Swiss celebrated a national holiday on August 1. I had a late dinner by the lake with my dad and friends and scoffed at the basically non-existent display of fireworks before heading home to catch enough rest for Saturday.

IMG_1473

This was taken on my way home from Munich, #nofilter

Once a year Zürich hosts one of the largest techno parties similar to the love parade along the lake. It is called the Street Parade, and it is a time where you spend an afternoon in the city barely dressed/in costume, dancing away to electro music blaring from one of the many floats driving by. It is definitely a scene, and I started going when I was 16, and have been 3 times since (in 2 year intervals, funny). As a child I remember being able to hear the base all the way to our home, so I am glad my parents kept me from going sooner. Also, I tend to belong to the more “overdressed” people when I go… yes I know “everyone” is basically naked, and you are meant to wear a costume, but I still don’t feel comfortable exposing too much skin in the city and among large crowds of people. It’s just kind of weird… and brings out my inner conservative prude 😉

I sadly didn’t put any effort at all into my costume this year. I didn’t want to be the Cheshire Cat again and didn’t think anyone would get the joke of my Halloween costume

IMG_1476

…so I opted for a cool “cargo pant and tight leather shirt with my Cheshire Cat ears look” that I could’ve also worn out to the club later, if I ended up staying in town that late (people also showed up at Plaza, my fav club, in ridiculous costumes though!). What’s more, it was meant to rain, and I didn’t want to get cold… gee I am starting to sound old!

IMG_1480

I borrowed my friends water gun for this pic. Her military costume was amazing!

IMG_1477

Since my outfit was “boring” in comparison to others, I tried to go for dramatic eye makeup: dark smokey eyes with a long wing
IMG_1478

While looking through these pictures, I realized I wore something similar the very first time I went to the Street Parade 4 years ago with one of my closest guy friends

39695_10150234546545245_7491754_n

And it also rained! How much fun is that picture? I really need to learn to be a bit more “fun and care-free” again…

I found a few old pictures from that first parade experience, so bear with me while I take a fun walk down memory lane and start to miss Zürich and my friends again 😉

39868_10150234772665245_746586_n

We met this FABULOUS person

40572_10150234756510245_6527729_n#selfie in the rain, already a thing in 2010

41210_10150234578020245_1126303_nand this wouldn’t be a proper post without me dancing… strong shoulders were needed here, but thankfully most of my (guy) friends are twice my height. 🙂

2 years later, I braved the festival again, this time with my bestest friend and in costume!

551238_10152019159275245_1179109649_n

Check out my yellow lashes! I was a bumble bee, she was a dead ballerina with face makeup inspired by the “Day of the Dead”. She always goes all out with outfits and will not set food anywhere unless she has achieved the flawless look she had in mind.. very admirable, but I tend to be more of the “ain’t nobody got time for that” type!

Fun Fact: I wore the same costume as on my last day of school before finals week. It is a tradition in Swiss high schools for the graduating class to dress up, which we actually ended up doing twice: once before our exams, and once after officially graduating.

Back to the future, erm I mean now…. I spent most of the afternoon in town, but wasn’t really feeling it this year. It was as if for the first time I actually noticed the whole drug consumption and was disgusted by how drunk people behaved.. I must really be getting old… don’t get me wrong, the party really isn’t dangerous and can (and should) be enjoyed without consuming anything, I just seemed to notice the excessiveness much more now that I am older. We also lost one of the girls from our group which annoyed us all because we spent a good part of an hour attempting the impossible by trying to find her in the unruly crowd… put us all in a weird mood… When we decided to finally give up the search, we danced for a few hours before walking to Bellevue to regroup. On our way there I spotted these two idiots dancing on a lamp-post on the bridge

IMG_1479

I used the word idiots because a) the drop from those lamps is dangerous and could either end on the concrete floor, railings or in the lake b) there is no way they would safely be able to return down to the bridge because most people would need copious amounts to drink before attempting such a daredevil climb. Up is always easier…

I left town around 7 and head home. I wanted to leave enough time to eat dinner and find an outfit for the after-party at Plaza, as one of my favourite parties from Ibiza was going to be there…

IMG_1494

Defected in the House!

I was glad I went with full makeup for the parade, as I ended up losing track of time while stressing over what I wanted to wear (as always..)

IMG_1496

It was a great Saturday. I seriously don’t know where I got the energy to party all day, all night and get up the next morning and go to BodyPump but I did. It must be all the dates and nut butter I am eating lately (fantastic combo by the way!)

IMG_1589

Obviously, if I put my mind to something, I can do anything, so for some reason I must subconsciously not want to organize my life just yet, because I know I should technically be able to do it…

Oh well…

IMG_1481

Thank you Katie for hosting this marvelous weekend recap!

Have a great start to the week!

Manicure Monday – Tart Deco

Hello hello, did you miss me?

IMG_1889

I was quite busy this weekend and slept all the way from Zürich to Munich because my phone had barely any battery and I had forgotten my charger at home, so I couldn’t start drafting a post from my phone 😦 .. problems of last-minute hectic packing…But at least I got to catch up on some Z’s!

IMG_1888

I luckily made it onto the train with minutes to spare, and had time to pick up some food for the journey – because you all know I cannot travel without food, especially my recent favourite: cherries! Yumm

Anyhoo, I have loads to tell you about my weekend, but I’m still editing the pictures so will hopefully have that post up later today. Until then, here’s Manicure Monday (finally) 🙂

IMG_1427An ode to Essie. Their names are getting more and more creative and unique with each new collection. I could barely contain my excitement when I read this polish’s name…

IMG_1420

Isn’t it fun?

IMG_1430

The colour is pretty swell too, dontcha think? Awesome name and colour? Yup, I was sold… almost immediately.

Essie definitely has the whole summer nail polish thing down to a “t”. I love all of their pastels, corals and bright colours. They match any summer outfit, event or even mood and are perfectly long-lasting – even without a proper top coat!

IMG_1424

IMG_1422

Tart Deco. Maybe I should try to do something slightly wilder with this polish, like a pattern or something, so that the manicure can live up to the polish’s name 🙂

IMG_1426

I am, as always, very pleased. Also, with our weather being slightly more on the rainy side, a little pop of summery coral on my nails keeps me in a good mood  when the sun fails to shine 🙂 When all else fails, nail polish (and a really nice mascara, and ohhh also a pweeeetty eyeliner) always manages to brighten my day. It’s the little things…

IMG_1428

IMG_1423

Have a beautiful, hopefully non-rainy day!

Manicure (Monday) Sunday – I’m Back!

Helloooooooooooooo blog world. How have you been?? Sorry to have gone MIA these last 2 weeks without a proper goodbye (or maybe my rant was a sign of being burnt out?). I was on holiday (yaay) and my absolute favourite island seemed to have trouble with WIFI everywhere (not so yay) #truestory…

Honestly I was doing pretty well with no internet until my phone magically connected to the non-working WIFI in our house, received a few messages, but then proceeded to not load anymore, leaving me frustrated and longing for 3G. This pretty much happened throughout the island until our last night, where we were at a restaurant with working WIFI…. which meant I only put my phone away to eat my meal… talk about father-daughter bonding (he was on his phone too) “virtual dinner”?

But still, no internet does not forgive my absence from you wonderful people. And then I came back to a short workweek (I had Thursday and Friday off for a pretty spectacular reason 😉 ), and to Germany winning the World Cup (i.e. plenty of late nights) so had LOADS of work to catch up on before heading back home to ZH…I should’ve sent a smoke signal or something to let you know I hadn’t forgotten about you… but I’ll make it up to you by bringing some sunshine and showing you pictures from our stay on the island and of life lately.

But more about that later. Manicure Monday Sunday is long overdue, so my holiday recap can wait – for now

IMG_1895

Deborah Lippmann

IMG_1899

I’ve only tested two of her nail polishes so far, and find them to be of great quality: Highly pigmented, long-lasting and shiny even without a top coat.

IMG_1906

Overall more than satisfactory. If only the brush were a bit more like that of Dior’s, then it would be a done deal. But that stands for most nail polishes that aren’t made by that house of couture 😉 (Cause we all know ESSIE could use a different brush too…)

IMG_1900

IMG_1894

IMG_1908

I also quite liked the colour “Break 4 Love”. I mean.. it matches my protein smoothie

IMG_1893

And I would totally break 4 love.. plus I LUUUURV my boyfriend/car

IMG_1741

So overall the nail polish suits me in many different ways possible. Win/Win 😉

Now to keep you guys reading (I have a waterfall of thoughts on life, photos and random quirkiness coming your way), here is a teaser on what is yet to come:

We don’t sleep – Weekend Recap

After being in Munich for the past 3 weeks and travelling every weekend with my dad to visit friends and family, I was looking forward to a weekend with my friends back home in Zürich. Despite knowing many amazing people all over the world, Zürich will always be where I am happiest (and yes this may partially be because I know the city like no other and grew up here. I know I would need to spend major quality time with my next “chosen home” to really be able to know where I belong, but for now it’s Zürich).

IMG_1652

As soon as I got back to the apartment, I started up Spotify and listened to “Small Bump” by Ed Sheeran on repeat while starting the grueling task of washing 3 weeks worth of laundry…

IMG_1659

There were a few more loads in the bathroom…

It was a bit overwhelming to start doing this much laundry at 11 pm… so I made myself some banana protein ice cream for motivation and fell into bed around 1. I make a point of trying to eat all my favorite foods while back home and used being up this late as the perfect excuse for a midnight snack 🙂 I don’t really feel comfortable using the kitchen much in Munich and it’s been hard to keep up with my healthy eating habits…Going back to my favourite ways at home is one thing I’m looking forward to after my internship (but I will really really miss my job 😦 )

I woke up early on Saturday for brunch with this beauty at Le Pain Quotidien:

IMG_1844

I normally have oatmeal and/or a pain au chocolat (they are divine here!) but decided against the “non-stop hunger” that wheat causes me because I had a dance class later in the day. Their scrambled eggs and fruit salad were nearly as great, but I did miss their White Chocolate spread 😉

After dance and yoga I met up with another friend for a Cool Lime Refresha at Starbucks. I hadn’t seen him in FOREVER and it was great to catch up. I also managed to squeeze in some grocery shopping before running home to get changed for dinner with two of the best girls in the world.

fotoThis is an old picture from our 3 week trip to Oxford with our class 4 years ago. It’s high time to take a new picture, my two better thirds 😀 ❤

We went to Tiffins, and guess what: I remembered to take pictures of the food BEFORE eating! It all looked so scrumptious that I naturally whipped out my phone! #instagram #instinct

After dinner we drove home to finish getting ready for a party. Meanwhile, buckets of rain poured from the sky. Ugh. We spent an hour listening to the latest party songs waiting for the storm to die down before braving the outdoors.

I stayed at the party for about an hour before heading into town for my next “date” #jampacked #sociallife 🙂

IMG_1721These two are the BEST ❤ I hadn’t seen them for too long and it was great catching up and turning night into day on the dance floor. You know you are among your best friends when you don’t notice the lights being turned on in the club and are shocked when the DJ announces his last song because you are too busy boogying to notice it was already 4.30 am…

This has been happening waaaay to frequently lately as I am only ever in town for 2 short nights and never want them to end. My tired body and designer bags under my eyes will thank me when my internship is over though so I can finally fully detox, sleep and meet friends during the day again 🙂

IMG_1467

But a little party never killed nobody, am I right? 🙂

I was so grateful to see some of my closest and most important friends this weekend. I missed my best friend this weekend as she was studying for her finals and hope to catch up with her and the others I didn’t get to see this time round very very soon.

Thanks to all of the fabulous people around me, a weekend in Zürich is without a doubt always absolutely marvelous 🙂

Manicure Monday – Fierce, no Fear

I’m wearing heels at work today. For the first time. In forever.

Seriously… I cannot remember the last time I felt this ladylike at work. Probably last year when I was working at the bank (coincidently possibly also the last time I  even wore this outfit as I decided to go with a rather businessy, polka-dotty blue dress today that is not short and skimpy enough too long and I want to say “elegant” for daily wear). The dress was screaming to be worn with heels – it couldn’t bear the idea of flats, so I went with it. And it feels magnificent! Perhaps too magnificent as I tend to enter this “I am wearing heels and I am awesome zone” whenever I wear heels and feel the sudden need to walk as if I were 1.80 m, on a catwalk and in Chanel Couture. #sorrynotsorry

IMG_1262

I’m pretty sure this happens to the best of us. It’s just something about finally being slightly taller that gives me the sudden urge to strut my stuff on my morning walk to work. I can even remember the first time this happened… it was a couple of years ago and I was über-excited to be going to Kaufleuten with some girlfriends. I had never been before and had been looking forward to that night all day. I changed my outfit 1500000 times (still do this, but who doesn’t) and grabbed my only pair of heels that I owned (yeah, I once only had a single pair of simple black heels – still wear them!) I was super-nervous we wouldn’t get in – I was only 16 and unlike my friends hadn’t known to ask anyone older for their ID card… oh the good old days..

IMG_1253

Anyhoo we got in without any problems as some of the people of our group were on the guest list (Woohoo for VIP feelings). We checked our coats and by the time we had done a last lipgloss check (I didn’t wear crazy amounts of mascara back then) I was dying to hit the dance floor. I remember this night as if it were yesterday (although honestly I still always do this): Kid Cudi’s Day ‘n’ Night was playing, I was in the afore-mentioned “I am wearing heels and I am awesome zone” and couldn’t help but STRUT onto the dance floor, flipping my hair off my shoulder while accentuating the “hip-bop” with every step. I was being FIERCE – Just like Tyra Banks taught me while watching all those episodes of America’s next top Model. My friends then grabbed me and pulled me back.

Apparently girls are meant to enter the dance floor together and shouldn’t “strut” or seem confident or be embarrassing.

But I didn’t let their comments get me down: I still do this. And I don’t get held back anymore. It’s become my THANG… I am woman hear me roar.

IMG_1258

But I digress. Oh how memories can be awoken by one single nail polish name. Now do you understand why I love them? 🙂

IMG_1264

Essie’s “fierce, no fear” is a nice brown-grey – which has time and time again proven to be a trend – with highly pigmented colour. It’s a great choice for the Summer. As always, the nail polish is easy to apply and looks all nice and shiny without needing an extra top coat.

IMG_1260

I wish I had worn this that night at the club. Then, when I was pulled back, I could’ve just flung my nail polish in their face and be all like: “fierce, no fear” and continued my strut to where the DJ was standing. If I could turn back time… 😉

IMG_1256

Did you know that Essie also has a nail polish called Strut your Stuff? Where were these nail polishes when I needed them! 🙂

Hope you are having a fantabulous Monday! Strut a little – be fierce – and make Tyra proud 😉

With extra oompf in my attitude and awesomely-fitting nail polish, Anoushé xoxo
