Distance makes the Heart grow fonder…

Ok ok ok… I realise it’s been nearly TWO WEEKS since I last posted – buuuuuuuut let me start with: Boy have I missed you guys. Yes, missing someone/ -thing does not make up for my lack of affection lately, but once you hear my reasons you will totally understand. At least I hope you will… or do I need to bribe you with some Kabocha squash?

Mhhhhhhm Kabocha Squaaaash

Or with this Coke Zero?

IMG_1692What caused my sudden disappearance, I hear you ask? It all started in my last week of work.. You all know how excited I was to be coming home, right? Well.. I guess my body took my final return to home base as a sign it could finally “give up” – i.e. I ended up catching a nightmarish flu, spending my last two days in bed with nearly 40 degrees fever and lack of appetite, being afraid to leave my bed because I had fainted during the night on my way to the bathroom. Yeah – it was not fun, and definitely not how I imagined my last few nights in Munich to be. I had had this fun evening planned, with Vietnamese food, drinks and dancing, but got oat cakes, binge watching Weeds and regularly taking Nurofen instead. Partaaaaay.

I honestly should’ve seen it coming though – my whole office was on/off sick and (in retrospect) my schedule was absolutely nuts.. there was no way my immune system could’ve coped much longer. There are only so many party weekends with little sleep and loads of working out a body can handle, and I guess that weekend my body told me to cool it for a while. It reminded me I was starting school next week and should probably be spending my last few days preparing and SLEEPING. Which is what I’ve been doing. Sort of. Most of the time.

So let’s pick up where we last left off with a recap of the last few weeks so that I can strive to post more regularly as of tomorrow 😉 even with my terrible flu, I did have a couple of marvellous days… sit tight guys, this post is going to be picture-ladden and über-lengthy – need to get back on track here, so don’t say I didn’t warn you!

The last time we spoke about life other than working out and eating, I had just gone to the Street Parade. Knowing my track record, you can imagine that that wasn’t my last weekend out all night… it was actually only the beginning… since that first weekend in August I have seen more sunrises and spent less time recuperating than would be deemed acceptable – no wonder I got so sick…but it’s ok as “school is starting soon so I need to get it out of my system”. Boy do I hope that is true…

These weekend-recaps are actually a great way to practice some “brain jogging” exercises, where I try to see if I can remember everything. Or better “anything”

The weekend after the Streetparade I went to my favourite bar, Dante, and had their amazing Amaretto Sour. Whenever I go out with my friend T, I know I’m in for a fun and eventful night, and that one was no different. The bar was stuffy, so we thought we would sit outside. As soon as we left though, the clouds decided it was a great time for thunder and lighting. I was wearing a dress and heels. We weren’t amused…

We decided to hop in a taxi and go to Mascotte. It was my first time as I was never old enough… it’s weird being that weird “twilight” age where I am finally old enough to go to all the clubs which is great, but don’t want to keep getting older, which is not so great… #foreveryoung

Here are some impressions from the rest of that weekend:

Monday morning, back at work, I had the most amazing homemade lemon meringue pie made by one of my co-workers for her birthday.

It sadly wasn’t the best pre-workout snack, as I experienced a mega sugar-crash mid workout. It was delicious though 🙂IMG_1540

That week, I had Friday off. Bayern celebrates Catholic holidays, so I got to go home on Thursday. And going home on a Thursday can only mean one thing: PLAZA – my favourite club, and favourite party.

I went with a new makeup look: Purple lips (review coming soon)

I did some major food shopping that weekend too, as I was home longer. Among the usual egg and fruit purchases, I had discovered spaghetti squash. I could barely contain my excitement and proceeded to send pictures to my parents while doing a happy dance around the squashes. #crazyperson #aisle4

I had dinner that night with my dad at Nagasui after a sweaty Bodypump session.

IMG_1597We tried their new vegetable dish, and I, of course, had the Panaeng.

I actually didn’t go out the rest of that weekend… I did however try to fix my excessive partying and lack of sleep with a couple of face masks…

IMG_1656IMG_1614I also treated myself to some sushi on the train

The next week was my second to last in Munich. I had a few appointments around town, so used the extra travelling to visit some of my favourite places, like my favourite coffee shop.

Had to have me a last Matcha Latte

And a last Chiquita Juice – so convenient and healthy 🙂

That next weekend, one of my best friends was finally back from a long vacation with her boyfriend. She surprised me at the train station and decided we were going out. I ended up leaving my suitcase at her place and picking it up the next day. Her surprising me meant my lashes were not “club-ready” though. I love to have too much mascara on when I go out.. my lashes are already pretty long and dark, so with enough coats of mascara they really make my eyes pop. I ended up making use of the time on the train – such a great way to pass time 🙂

I used L’Oréal Intenza Butterfly Mascara. I normally layer my mascaras, but only had one “emergency” mascara on me. I quite liked the effect it had on my lashes, albeit with a couple of coats 😉

We ended up going to Plaza

The next day I was up and about relatively early and went to my stretching class. Do you guys remember my splits? I’ve been working hard to improve them.. by adding one block

IMG_1682And then two

IMG_1654IMG_1670Always smiling 😉 My left leg seems to be much stronger, so I hope to achieve similar results on the right side soon.

After class I went to pick up my suitcase and then my mom’s godson at the train-station. He is working in Zug for a month, which is among the most boring Cantons, so I invited him out with my friends on Saturday.

We started our night with sushi from Barfüsser

IMG_1657And then went to Mascotte…until it closed 😉

Breakfast before hopping on the first tram home was the most delicious pretzel sandwich the size of my face. I cherished every bite after dancing for a few hours. Good stuff

IMG_1708My dad surprised me with this mason jar before dropping me off at the train station

IMG_1713I had been talking about how much I had wanted to become a total hipster who drank coffee from a mason jar when I went back to school #sorrynotsorry. I was so surprised and really touched that he and his fiancé had thought of me when they saw this in Mykonos.

Being a “cool-dad” (apologies for the necessary quotation marks 😉 ), my father never likes missing out on a trend, so he enjoyed his iced coffee in a mason jar of his own when he came to pick me up from Munich to help me move a week later. I hope he doesn’t start growing a long beard next… he’s already got the hipster glasses…

As mentioned earlier, I got sick the following Thursday. Monday I was still able to run some errands though.

I had another Matcha Latte, and a Green Juice

I also bought enough evil eyes and hamsa hands to protect me from anything and everything. Too bad they didn’t prevent my fever…

I also had a wonderful last PR event for a few perfume brands at Käfer

IMG_1671After a depressing few last nights, my dad picked me up on Saturday and we drove home, where I was finally greeted by my new student ID card

My first week back, I started catching up with paperwork, friends and workouts. I have not however made it back to dance classes yet… something is just holding me back from starting and I don’t know why…

I have been organising my bathroom and bedroom in preparation for school next week. Music has been helping me get through the mess.

IMG_1679I also finished reading “What a girl wants” by Lindsey Kelk

IMG_1680My room is still  a mess – finding (and freaking out over) my courses and finally being home has distracted me plenty. My bathroom on the other hand has never looked more tidy

I have also bought my first university book

IMG_1727On my first official Thursday back, I of course, had to go to Plaza again…

I’ve also been to Hiltl a few times

And finally, this last weekend, I visited my cousin and his mom in Geneva, and promised to visit them more frequently now that I am finally back at home.

IMG_1691So there you have it folks – the past month all summarised in one post. I hope you’ve all been well! Head on over to Katie’s blog for more marvellousness, and talk soon – I promise!

Friday – I’m in Love

…ehhhr well not exactly. But I am in LUUURV with this Body Shop Camomile Eye Make-up Remover.

So much so that I already stocked up on a few more bottles!

I read about The Body Shop’s Camomile line a while back and about the benefits of using cleansing oil in your beauty routine, so when I went to pick up their Camomile Cleansing Oil (as promised here, review coming when emptied!), a bottle of this make-up remover “happened” to find its way to the till too… funny how that happens 😉

I have tested quite a few waterproof removers, and all have had similar results: Most of my (liberally-applied, extreme-volume) mascara still stays put, and I tend to keep on dabbing at my eyes until they become all red and irritated. This may or may not be the reason I “forget” to remove my mascara at night when I want to look flawless the next day – with dry and crumbly day old “extra-oomph” eyelashes. #Iwokeuplikethis

And yes *gasp* I will form premature wrinkles by not removing my makeup. Don’t lecture me. I have already traumatized myself enough and check my skin obsessively. I barely ever wear mascara and the whole not-removing process is thankfully not too frequent….

But again, I digress. Why do I talk/type so much?!

Anyhoo I’m not going to lie and say this makeup remover is better than all others – it’s not. But I do feel that it is slightly more gentle. It is part of the camomile line after all.  Also, I learned a valuable trick all those years ago when I went to Clarins for my first products: It is a good idea to soak a cotton pad in remover before pressing it gently on to the eye for a few minutes. This ensures that most of your eye-makeup gets soaked up and you can avoid the “irritated red skin” that I know all too well. Patience is key my friends.. something I have yet to learn.. cue still frequent occurences of red, blotchy skin. #Iwillneverlearn

I paired this trick with The Body Shop’s Make-up Remover and used the cleansing oil for my face and any leftover eye make-up. I found the combo to work quite well and it is slowly becoming my new – post dance-party – routine 🙂 As mentioned earlier, I have already stocked up on more, so I think the Camomile Waterproof Make-up Remover will be sticking around for a little… it has stolen my heart, not just on Fridays 😉

Complete the removal process with a serum and some eye cream and you are good to go (to bed). Again, an update on my evening routine is in the making, so stay tuned!

Do you have a favourite eye make-up remover?

TGIF guys 😀 I’m going home for the weekend and cannot wait to be back in my “hood”.

Marvelous in my Monday

This post is long overdue. It took me a while to reemerge from the rabbit hole

I mentioned here a while ago that I had met Johnny Depp…

I think it is time to clear the air and tell you about my marvelous weekend:

First things first: I sadly did not actually hang out with Johnny Depp. My dad may have some cool friends, but he hasn’t ventured into befriending members of the Hollywood territory (just yet).

The Mad Hatter

The Mad Hatter

So if this isn’t Johnny Depp, who is it?

Well, my dad and his fiancé hosted an Alice in Wonderland themed costume party a few Saturdays ago. Everyone put some effort into dressing up as either Alice, the Queen of Hearts or the Mad Hatter (Sadly didn’t see any caterpillars). This gentleman put in slightly more effort than others, with an outfit so lifelike he could’ve just walked right off the set of Tim Burton’s movie.

I was also very excited to spot a couple dressed as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumm 🙂

I went as the Cheshire Cat, and luckily for me, my idea remained unique.

I found my outfit online and was slightly worried it would look a tad bit too “unappropriate”. Thankfully it was actually a cute dress with accents of the original Cheshire Cat colours (pink and purple). Wanting to also incorporate the newer version of the cat (blue), I decided to wear my favourite heels and blue cat contact lenses.

My makeup was also matching: pink eyeshadow with purple eyeliner on one side, purple eyeshadow with purple eyeliner on the other and lots and lots of Givenchy Noir Couture purple velvet mascara – I was happy to finally have an occasion to purely use coloured mascara and see what it looks like (I normally do a mix of black and colour for an extra pop). I also wore purple-pink-ish lipstick.

My dad went as the Mad Hatter

Wonderland Selfie

My best friend also made an appearance.. as Alice 🙂

Jumping for joy.

And boogying all night!

Aint no party like a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party 😉

We all had a marvelous time!

Therapy for the Conceal-a-holic

You guys. I have a confession to make. Reality TV => OBSESSION ALERT!

Yes, you may roll your eyes and think I’m mad, but I honestly find the Kardashians an amusing bunch of people. Also, have you watched Shahs of Sunset? Oh Em Gee you guys, I can’t even. Persians in Tehrangeles – I’m hooked!

Pancakes. I’ve been having a weird craving for pancakes lately. It all started when I made pancakes for dinner on Sunday. I hadn’t eaten pancakes in forever, and now, I can’t seem to get enough.

Coconut Flour Pancakes

Greek Yoghurt Pancakes

Mr. Lash BoosterI can’t even handle the beauty, nor the effect it will have on my lashes. Need. This.

I’ve gone Cashew CrazyMy new years resolutions have not been going very well food wise, and I really hope to pull off some (partially) raw (mainly) vegan action ASAP. Especially now that I’m noticing problems when eating wheat…

Alexa Chung’s Cat Eye – Makes me and my makeup seem extremely trendy 😉

I’m loving this new blog I discovered today! Hip and trendy outfits that make me super jealous!

Please someone, make this for me!

Oh and I can’t get enough of Peanut Butter Lindor Kugeln. Been eating them nightly since the New Year… too bad I can’t buy them here, in Zurich, in Switzerland, where they originally come from! I’ve even been to the factory and everything…

Would you rather..

I came across this “Would you rather” post on a Perfect Masquerade and Ginger Loves Makeup. Thank you so much Rebecca for the tag! It was hard to resist answering all these fun questions! Feel free to join in too! 🙂

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?

Although mascaras and lipsticks aren’t a part of my daily makeup, they still play a vital part in my party makeup, and I could never imagine going out without false-looking lashes! And don’t even get me started on eyeliner.. I live for it – how else would I be able to pull of my signature “winged eyes”?! Definitely would be able to live without eye shadows.. they are purely embellishment 😉

My "wings"

My “wings”

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

Hmmm.. tough question. I used to have super long hair and wasn’t ever really allowed to cut it. To this day my mom freaks out whenever I go to the hairdressers: “Your hair is too short!” (when it is over shoulder length..). I do enjoy long hair, and I think I’ll go with never being able to cut it again. I have a friend from India who has never cut her hair and it really is beautiful and not that hard to manage – plus, to me, it is more appealing than chopping it all off!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Pink – who doesn’t like the idea of romantic, rosy cheeks like in the fairy tales?

4. If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Oh god. I think I would have to split it in half! I mean, honestly, I know I should be saying clothes, because I’ve technically got enough makeup to last me a couple of months years…  That just goes to show where I spend the majority of my money, so the cosmetic-holic inside of my would definitely go with makeup over clothes…although I wouldn’t mind having another Miss Sixty shopping spree.. 😉

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

When push comes to shove, I’ll go with eyeliner as lipstick. You never know what situation you might be in where this would come in handy..

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

SEPHORA!!!!!! Must I remind you I have a VIB ROUGE MEMBERSHIP CARD? I basically live in SEPHORA!!!

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

Hmm.. I mostly do a lot of eye makeup and tone it down on the lips (albeit I do love the classic red from time to time), so I think if I had to, I would survive just fine with my Bebe Young Care Shimmer Chapstick (although I do love the Clarins Red)

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Easy. Take summer clothes + tights/leggings –> winter outfit!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

My parents always pick on my for my brightly coloured nails.. those are definitely my go-to. Shamelessly I don’t really care about nail trends and “what is right”

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

Ugh. Don’t like this one. As mentioned above I love the Bebe Young Care chapstick. I have yet to find a respectable replacement. Eye products.. well I have my favourites but seeing as they have changed over the years I guess I could give that up…(I will never give up my GIVENCHY mascara though. NEVER!)

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

Easy. When I’m not wearing my hair down, I have it in a ponytail. It’s the only reasonable ‘do for sports. Plus, I have never managed to make the messy bun work for me… any tips?

12. Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

Bare Nails? I can’t. Stop the torture. I will never be able to erase the idea out of my mind! (answer your question enough? 🙂 )

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

Neither. I have learned to love my Persian Eyebrows. Seriously, it used to be an issue…feel the love people!

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

Oh god. This question… well. I did survive a few months in theUS without using much makeup… so I guess I could do it. I don’t know for how long, but I could. Now, no nail polish.. that is a definite no no 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

Week Four

Last week, I told you about my dance schedule and how I stopped wearing make up, but made sure I would wear face masks and take care of my skin instead. Natural glow, check!

The past weekend I continued the care routine with another mask – much to my friends delight. We celebrated a birthday on Friday, and while cleaning up the next day I decided to multi-task with a mask.. which scared the birthday girl (ohh that first bit rhymed!). If I remember correctly, I believe she said I looked like a faded out ghost..

The night before though I finally got to wear some of my favorite makeup.

I present to you, my college mascara collection.

Photo on 9-29-13 at 7.43 PM #2This covers the most important lash helpers. You’ve got the Mac volume, the L’oréal Glitter, and the Lancome fake-eyelash maker. Very back to Basics, but absolutely essential for lovely lashes. To round out the gang though, there is one pièce de résistance..

Photo on 9-29-13 at 7.43 PM #3This mascara masterpiece by Givenchy. I owe my lash beauty in this picture to this mascara (and to a great photographer). This mascara does not only work, it is also aesthetically an eye-catcher (while serving as an eye-opener.. har har har).

*Heart Melting*

Dressing up has lately become a special and dear thing to me. I much sooner break out the heels and cute dresses, even if I am just doing laundry, because most of the time you will see me looking like this around campus:

IMG_0276Yes, I have broken out the Uggs!

In preparation for the afore-mentioned birthday party, I finally did my nails. Doing this however made me realise I was in desperate need of retail therapy. I was also trying to cheer up a friend who was having a bad day by reading out a couple of nail polish names while selecting them online.

Yesterday, 3 of them arrived.

IMG_0296I finally ventured out of OPI and Essie territory and decided to purchase Butter London. The names were swoon-some. But wait…is that? My.. my oh my.. this is bad.. very bad..

IMG_0298One of them arrived damaged!! An entire corner was cracked and chipped off; the insides of the box they arrived in was drenched in polish and one of the other polishes was covered in colour.. You think it couldn’t get any worse than that right? They are going to replace it, right? Well, yes they will be doing that, BUT I was most annoyed by the fact the one polish I was excited by was unusable.. And can you guess why especially that color had grown on me? It’s name.. it was called “dahling”! Luckily for me, I had “crumpet” and “brown sugar” to comfort me in my mournfully darling-less state.

On that disappointed note, look at them abs:

IMG_0304And at these cereal milk flavored froyos from the Milk Bar:

IMG_0305I guess you can tell I went into the city 🙂

The reason for this Monday evening field trip was to watch a show for our Dance History class. We have to review a performance and “Fall for Dance” was perfect for that.

IMG_0297We just made sure we got a couple of pictures down before we took notes on dance…

That wasn’t the only fun event these past few days; I also went to a soccer game!

IMG_0299Go Gryphons! 😀

Tomorrow I will be leaving campus to go into the city to visit my father who is here to see ME 🙂 Let’s hope he brings me champagne truffles or Luxembourgli.. no pressure, whatever works 😉
