Current Craze: Kylie Jenner Lips

As much as I am convinced I am meant to be a princess, I am equally sure that I was meant to be a Kardashian. Only drawback: I would need to change my name to one starting with a K. Hmmm – anyone know any pretty Persian girl names with K? yeah no.. probably not going to happen then after all, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be the queen of my own reality TV show, right? Goals, people.. we all need goals.

Now back to the Kardashians.

Being an active user of social media and a complete sucker for trends and what’s “in”, I soon became obsessed with Keeping up with the Ks. I mean, just take one look at the current makeup crazes: contouring, big lips and butts are all the rage, and yup, you guessed it, the Kardashians are the ones we can worship thank for that (whether you like it or not).

I wrote an article about their first trend (contouring) when I worked at MADAME. This was brought to life by Kim, the second oldest sister. I didn’t actually start contouring my own face until I got my hands on Benefit’s “HOOLA”. I’ll be posting my tips as soon as I’ve received the pictures my friend took for me 🙂

Today, we talk about big lips – a trend the youngest of the clan (Kylie Jenner) brought to life. Although there is still plenty of dispute over whether or not she actually had lip surgery done, we can’t deny the magic of overdrawing lips with lipliner before filling them in with lipstick.

Still trying to perfect the look myself, I don’t think I have enough tips and tricks to share with you just yet. Every single time I attempt an overdrawn lip, I end up redoing it over and over again thanks to feeling like I looked like a clown. So bear with me while I continue to practice, and I’ll be sure to post an actual tutorial ASAP 🙂 Until then, here are some of the times I actually was quite pleased with the look #lipspiration

For those of you who are feeling adventurous, here are the steps I’ve followed:

  1. Conceal on and around your lips and top with some powder -> this is to blur the outline of your actual lip
  2. Apply lip liner first above the cupid’s bow. Depending on how extreme a look you are going for, you can either apply your lip liner right around your actual outline or leave a bit of a gap. Make sure to return the liner to your actual outline before the transition to your lower lip (I aim to trace my actual lip for at least 1-2 cm)
  3. Same procedure goes for your lower lip; start in the middle and return back to your actual lip line.
  4. Fill in the gaps and your lips with the lip liner
  5. Trace over lip liner with lip stick in matching colour
  6. To complete the look, you might need to retrace your overdrawn lips with more lipliner, and then surround your lips with some more concealer and powder to set.

Enjoy your big lips 🙂

How can it only have been 3 Weeks!

Please apologise my short hiatus. I honestly didn’t see this one coming. I even started typing up a draft for Thinking out Loud two weeks ago to tell you all about my first week, but being overwhelmed by reading kinda sorta got in the way….

Fast forward two weeks later, and I am slowly coming back to my senses. Sure, I need to do A LOT – but so does everyone else, and somehow they still have an actual life… so I took a step back and reevaluated the whole scenario. I watched myself in slow-motion and tried to find the errors in my ways. I even flash-backed to my literature heavy time at SLC to aid my “autobiographical research” and noticed a terrible pattern that could possibly lead me directly to a very fast, immediately doomed burn-out:

I mean too well when it comes to the (suggested and recommended) readings.

Long gone are the high-school days of only needing to read a shortish book for a language class or a few chapters of biology at most. These few pages were easily summarised and didn’t steal time away from revision or paper-writing (or more importantly my social life, which is basically non-existent right now). No, university brings forth pages upon pages of “important and valuable” reading that supports course work and helps with understanding the subject matter – and could also doom me to all-nighters and being permanently behind on EVERYTHING. And being the person that I am, I began to freak out when I noticed that it took me almost an hour to read (and summarise) about 10 pages of “required” reading….That’s when I started to analyse a presumed fault in my ways… and found the probable error that had already caused major panic attacks at SLC.

I have forced myself to come to terms with the fact that sometimes a summary isn’t really all that necessary. Plus, it is a mega time consumer. Sometimes just reading can be enough. This is actually my current mantra to my inner nerdy, over-achieving self, especially after I noticed that the professors base their lectures almost entirely on the books they recommend (they are oftentimes also the authors) and offer an acceptable summary of the 40 pages, albeit not as exact as I may have done it, but almost definitely exact enough for the exam in January knowing that I am currently only 3 weeks in and have already received so much information at a really high speed to process.

So that being said, I have now after 3 weeks been able to figure out a system I hope will work, as I have identified some lectures as “exact reciprocations of the reading” where I will thus do the reading but only highlight the text and summarise after the lecture if I feel I am missing information, and lectures that require “discussions of the reading” where a summary could definitely come in handy because the information of the presentation isn’t as exact or informative. Oh and I also found a class that requires mainly practice exercises and little theory (microeconomics) and so I will put more emphasis on the practical work than the learning by heart.

Boy am I glad today is Thinking out Loud Thursday and I can share all my thoughts with you all. I am sure you are highly interested in my super-exciting student life with mounds of studying and like zero social interactions 😉 Thanks Amanda for hosting!

1. When we last spoke it was September. Like what the what calendar, how can there only be 3 months left to 2014. I feel like I literally JUST came home from New York.

2. I’ve been making my protein smoothie a lot for breakfast lately. Today I added some fun nutritional-science things to it like glutamine and BCAA’s etc etc (i.e. there were a lot of different powders in there) and for some weird reason, it just didn’t want to mix with the banana and raspberries. What’s more, the smoothie sort of bypassed the frozen fruit in my blender and kind of formed 3 different layers: A top layer of something that resembled molten marshmallow, a centre layer of frozen fruit and a bottom layer of what my usual smoothie would have been like. This has never happened to me before, so I am blaming the additional powders… Well not really blaming, as I got marshmallow fluff out of it (yay) …but it was weird nonetheless.

3. I’ve been using either blush or bronzer (or both) daily lately. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I never used to wear blush as my cheeks are naturally rosy, but I found university to be the perfect time to start experimenting with new makeup looks. I still sport my beloved cat eye though. Also I have started to sometimes wear mascara for my super early (8 am) classes, where I have to get up at 6 because the communications students are the “lucky” ones who get to travel all around town to the various different University campuses to get to class.

I sometimes also wear lipstick. I am officially growing up.

IMG_4118

…although it is aggressively Barbie pink. So nope, not growing up just yet 😀

4. I mentioned last time that I would be sharing a great post with you soon. I guess that was a white lie, as I no longer think it will be soon, more like in the near future. But it will be worth the wait. I promise!

5. IMG_1821

Cacao Chanel and Kale Lagerfeld. YES!

6. Speaking of juices…I’ve been indulging in loads of vibrant smoothies lately. It’s all I ever want for breakfast, snacks and sometimes even dinner after a fun body pump sesh.

(recipes coming soon)

7. I am reunited with this little munchkin!

IMG_3977

8.  I really LOVE being a student and really hope I can sort out this whole studying thing because I have yet to experience “student life”. Also, I found this post rather amusing, but it doesn’t apply to me at all because I love to cook and experiment with different diets (like the whole paleo and high carb, Raw Till 4 approaches)

IMG_4115

9. I have some new additions to my accessories that I cannot get enough of:

IMG_1818

IMG_1816

IMG_1817

10. Another secret I have discovered that might improve my study efficiency is an iced caramel macchiato. I read faster, type quicker and generally feel so much more productive (read: hyperactivity for the win). I just hope I can fall asleep…

IMG_1819

I really hope I will get round to posting again soon! I’m off to summarise a lecture and do some reading for tomorrow…

Happy Thursdaaaaay 🙂

Distance makes the Heart grow fonder…

Ok ok ok… I realise it’s been nearly TWO WEEKS since I last posted – buuuuuuuut let me start with: Boy have I missed you guys. Yes, missing someone/ -thing does not make up for my lack of affection lately, but once you hear my reasons you will totally understand. At least I hope you will… or do I need to bribe you with some Kabocha squash?

IMG_1700

Mhhhhhhm Kabocha Squaaaash

IMG_1697

Or with this Coke Zero?

IMG_1692What caused my sudden disappearance, I hear you ask? It all started in my last week of work.. You all know how excited I was to be coming home, right? Well.. I guess my body took my final return to home base as a sign it could finally “give up” – i.e. I ended up catching a nightmarish flu, spending my last two days in bed with nearly 40 degrees fever and lack of appetite, being afraid to leave my bed because I had fainted during the night on my way to the bathroom. Yeah – it was not fun, and definitely not how I imagined my last few nights in Munich to be. I had had this fun evening planned, with Vietnamese food, drinks and dancing, but got oat cakes, binge watching Weeds and regularly taking Nurofen instead. Partaaaaay.

I honestly should’ve seen it coming though – my whole office was on/off sick and (in retrospect) my schedule was absolutely nuts.. there was no way my immune system could’ve coped much longer. There are only so many party weekends with little sleep and loads of working out a body can handle, and I guess that weekend my body told me to cool it for a while. It reminded me I was starting school next week and should probably be spending my last few days preparing and SLEEPING. Which is what I’ve been doing. Sort of. Most of the time.

So let’s pick up where we last left off with a recap of the last few weeks so that I can strive to post more regularly as of tomorrow 😉 even with my terrible flu, I did have a couple of marvellous days… sit tight guys, this post is going to be picture-ladden and über-lengthy – need to get back on track here, so don’t say I didn’t warn you!

MiMM

The last time we spoke about life other than working out and eating, I had just gone to the Street Parade. Knowing my track record, you can imagine that that wasn’t my last weekend out all night… it was actually only the beginning… since that first weekend in August I have seen more sunrises and spent less time recuperating than would be deemed acceptable – no wonder I got so sick…but it’s ok as “school is starting soon so I need to get it out of my system”. Boy do I hope that is true…

These weekend-recaps are actually a great way to practice some “brain jogging” exercises, where I try to see if I can remember everything. Or better “anything”

IMG_1538

The weekend after the Streetparade I went to my favourite bar, Dante, and had their amazing Amaretto Sour. Whenever I go out with my friend T, I know I’m in for a fun and eventful night, and that one was no different. The bar was stuffy, so we thought we would sit outside. As soon as we left though, the clouds decided it was a great time for thunder and lighting. I was wearing a dress and heels. We weren’t amused…

IMG_1541

We decided to hop in a taxi and go to Mascotte. It was my first time as I was never old enough… it’s weird being that weird “twilight” age where I am finally old enough to go to all the clubs which is great, but don’t want to keep getting older, which is not so great… #foreveryoung

Here are some impressions from the rest of that weekend:

IMG_1539

IMG_1548IMG_1544

IMG_1546

Monday morning, back at work, I had the most amazing homemade lemon meringue pie made by one of my co-workers for her birthday.

IMG_1551

It sadly wasn’t the best pre-workout snack, as I experienced a mega sugar-crash mid workout. It was delicious though 🙂IMG_1540

That week, I had Friday off. Bayern celebrates Catholic holidays, so I got to go home on Thursday. And going home on a Thursday can only mean one thing: PLAZA – my favourite club, and favourite party.

I went with a new makeup look: Purple lips (review coming soon)

IMG_1590

IMG_1592

I did some major food shopping that weekend too, as I was home longer. Among the usual egg and fruit purchases, I had discovered spaghetti squash. I could barely contain my excitement and proceeded to send pictures to my parents while doing a happy dance around the squashes. #crazyperson #aisle4

IMG_1594

I had dinner that night with my dad at Nagasui after a sweaty Bodypump session.

IMG_1597We tried their new vegetable dish, and I, of course, had the Panaeng.

IMG_1598

I actually didn’t go out the rest of that weekend… I did however try to fix my excessive partying and lack of sleep with a couple of face masks…

IMG_1613

IMG_1656IMG_1614I also treated myself to some sushi on the train

IMG_1630

IMG_1665

The next week was my second to last in Munich. I had a few appointments around town, so used the extra travelling to visit some of my favourite places, like my favourite coffee shop.

IMG_1672

IMG_1577

Had to have me a last Matcha Latte

IMG_1579

And a last Chiquita Juice – so convenient and healthy 🙂

IMG_1588

That next weekend, one of my best friends was finally back from a long vacation with her boyfriend. She surprised me at the train station and decided we were going out. I ended up leaving my suitcase at her place and picking it up the next day. Her surprising me meant my lashes were not “club-ready” though. I love to have too much mascara on when I go out.. my lashes are already pretty long and dark, so with enough coats of mascara they really make my eyes pop. I ended up making use of the time on the train – such a great way to pass time 🙂

IMG_1685

Before:IMG_1689

After:

IMG_1688

I used L’Oréal Intenza Butterfly Mascara. I normally layer my mascaras, but only had one “emergency” mascara on me. I quite liked the effect it had on my lashes, albeit with a couple of coats 😉

We ended up going to Plaza

IMG_1690

The next day I was up and about relatively early and went to my stretching class. Do you guys remember my splits? I’ve been working hard to improve them.. by adding one block

IMG_1682And then two

IMG_1654IMG_1670Always smiling 😉 My left leg seems to be much stronger, so I hope to achieve similar results on the right side soon.

After class I went to pick up my suitcase and then my mom’s godson at the train-station. He is working in Zug for a month, which is among the most boring Cantons, so I invited him out with my friends on Saturday.

We started our night with sushi from Barfüsser

IMG_1657And then went to Mascotte…until it closed 😉

IMG_1666

Breakfast before hopping on the first tram home was the most delicious pretzel sandwich the size of my face. I cherished every bite after dancing for a few hours. Good stuff

IMG_1708My dad surprised me with this mason jar before dropping me off at the train station

IMG_1713I had been talking about how much I had wanted to become a total hipster who drank coffee from a mason jar when I went back to school #sorrynotsorry. I was so surprised and really touched that he and his fiancé had thought of me when they saw this in Mykonos.

Being a “cool-dad” (apologies for the necessary quotation marks 😉 ), my father never likes missing out on a trend, so he enjoyed his iced coffee in a mason jar of his own when he came to pick me up from Munich to help me move a week later. I hope he doesn’t start growing a long beard next… he’s already got the hipster glasses…

IMG_1678

As mentioned earlier, I got sick the following Thursday. Monday I was still able to run some errands though.

IMG_1676

I had another Matcha Latte, and a Green Juice

IMG_1668

I also bought enough evil eyes and hamsa hands to protect me from anything and everything. Too bad they didn’t prevent my fever…

IMG_1669

I also had a wonderful last PR event for a few perfume brands at Käfer

IMG_1671After a depressing few last nights, my dad picked me up on Saturday and we drove home, where I was finally greeted by my new student ID card

IMG_1374

IMG_1357

My first week back, I started catching up with paperwork, friends and workouts. I have not however made it back to dance classes yet… something is just holding me back from starting and I don’t know why…

I have been organising my bathroom and bedroom in preparation for school next week. Music has been helping me get through the mess.

IMG_1681

IMG_1679I also finished reading “What a girl wants” by Lindsey Kelk

IMG_1680My room is still  a mess – finding (and freaking out over) my courses and finally being home has distracted me plenty. My bathroom on the other hand has never looked more tidy

IMG_1358

IMG_1730

IMG_1731

IMG_1733

I have also bought my first university book

IMG_1727On my first official Thursday back, I of course, had to go to Plaza again…

IMG_1732

I’ve also been to Hiltl a few times

IMG_1693

And finally, this last weekend, I visited my cousin and his mom in Geneva, and promised to visit them more frequently now that I am finally back at home.

IMG_1691So there you have it folks – the past month all summarised in one post. I hope you’ve all been well! Head on over to Katie’s blog for more marvellousness, and talk soon – I promise!

Gone, going, gone

Hello world, hope your listening..

Do you guys know that One Republic song? For some reason, every single time I start a blog post with “hello world” I can’t get that song out of my head.

GREAT – now I can’t stop thinking of Kylie Minogue in that white leotard singing na na na, na na na na na…

Wow; look at the jumps I just made (all while also listening to this song). Multitasking #forthewin !

Before I move on to the actual topic of the day, let me jump back to the first song I mentioned. I just looked it up as I only ever knew the first two lines and found the second verse sooooo pweeeeetty:

“I get lost in the beauty
Of everything I see
The world ain’t half as bad
As they paint it to be”

Oh and a quick quote I am currently loving before officially moving on:

Definitely something I am trying to live by…

Now on to more superficial things: I HAVE USED UP MY FAVOURITE CHAPSTICKS

IMG_1870

I wore these daily – they were the perfect pink hue… natural, yet visibly shiny and creamy as can be.

IMG_1872

Now the Bebe chapstick I can easily replace (I just haven’t gotten round to it yet as I have a “pearly white” version of it to use up for the time being). The one I am really mourning is the Labello “Love Therapy” chapstick, as it has been discontinued. When I bought it 3 (!) years ago, I left it in my purse among 50 000000000 others and barely ever touched it. But when I decided to limit my opened products and cleaned out 90 % of my bathroom (extremely necessary again!!) I finally started to use it more (interchangeably with Bebe) and fell in absolute love.

It was slightly less creamy than Bebe, a darker pink and a bit more sparkly – I especially liked its sweet raspberry flavour.

IMG_1873I’ve always been a big fan of milky white/pink lip colours. For some reason I haven’t really ventured out into the realm of bold, “out there” shades yet, because I generally prefer heavier eye makeup. I try to live by the unwritten rule of less is more (so choose either or)… unless I ever learn to cool it with the mascara when I go out (doubt it), my lips will generally stay a creamy, pinkish, nude, sparkly colour at night.

I have however tested darker colours during the day, as I only ever wear discreet winged eye makeup* and can thus legitimize a bolder lip

IMG_0453

IMG_0463

(*It’s still somehow enough eyeliner to receive witty remarks from my dad like: “You look like Amy Winehouse today”. Seiously? This is how Amy Winehouse did her eyes… this is how I do mine. Spot the difference? Yeah I thought so…)

Anyhow, this is not meant to be yet another winged eyeliner post, but one about a favourite “empty product”… I drift off too much sometimes…

IMG_2387

I really hope Labello starts selling Love Therapy again. It’s reasons like this that taught me to buy 5 of everything, if I find something I really like (even though it takes me foreeeeever to finish anything), because you never know when they could be gone, going, gone… (I’m on a roll with including lyrics today. GO ME :))

Have a great Thursday!

With attitude and nail polish, Anoushé xoxo

Obsession Alert: Code Red!

You guys. It is murder working at a magazine. I am SURROUNDED by all the products I want to try and I can’t do more than just test out a little on my hand… so sad 😦

I’ve resorted to drowning my sorrows in spoonfuls of peanut butter and endless Sephora “loves”. Seriously, it is an issue. I just bought a 500 g jar two days ago and it is already half empty.

Whoops

I tend to spoon feed myself more upon utter excitement, like when I found this eye cream. If only it weren’t so expensive…. and nut butter so calorific…

Whoops again

Also, I NEED this in my life. It would a) be “parfait” and b) my first Chanel makeup purchase… you have to start somewhere… the only thing is I can’t quite convince myself to spend the money on it because the colour is outrageously similar to this. But it’s Chanel so it should be ok.. right?

Have you guys watched Girl Code? It used to be on at the gym at SLC, and I found it ridiculous then – but after finding some relatively funny gifs and memes on Pinterest (that are sadly very accurate and applicable to me) I thought I would actually watch an episode without mute turned on. Now I am officially hooked. Goodbye social life… oh wait that’s gone anyways this weekend as I decided to stay here and know NOONE! I do have my eye on a cute barista though…..

Speaking of working out: I found an amazing gym here! I can’t wait to train more frequently…

IMG_1687

Oh I also wouldn’t mind a Lancôme lipstick or two… don’t blame me, blame Instagram like I do

Also, anyone want to take me to Paris sometime soon?

IMG_0138

IMG_0216

Because Maison Guerlain has opened the mothership of all beauty heavens. It’s an oasis full of everything from makeup to an in-house spa to a restaurant… It’s number 68 – I can’t believe I was so close last time!

IMG_0139

That was outside Louis Vuitton, but I would have rather seen Guerlain

my problems people… seriously…;)

And can someone find me this lock?

8412755091_2d308d5555_z

It’s currently my background on my phone!

Oh and on a completely non beauty/dance note, I love this song and this one, and this one

Actually maybe it is a slight dance note, as I can feel choreography-inspiration coming my way. You know I always seem to dance more after going to the gym? Weird…

Question of the day

What things are making your heart beat faster lately?

With attitude and nail polish, Anoushé xoxo

Obsession Alert!

IMG_0104This is me. I own nearly 5 shades of coral. (Source: Pinterest)

IMG_0106

Source: Pinterest

This is also me. But seriously, those people are CREATIVE and I would be proud to have thought of a super-awesome nail polish name 🙂

In other news…

I’m currently super crushing on this lip stick:

IMG_0113

IMG_0115

IMG_0117I’ve never been a red anything kinda girl. I think there is a time and a place for red lips and nails and that has definitely not yet arrived for me just yet. I feel like pink is more age appropriate, I feel less grown up with sparkly Barbie colours…

This lipstick got me to change me mind. The outside is chapsticky and the inside is a lipstick. Purely the aesthetics of how it is designed drove me to purchasing this lipstick. It was love at first sight! Application is smooth and doesn’t feel dry like many lipsticks have in the past (I rarely use lipstick anyways..lip gloss olé!) and works as a balm, while being glossy as well. Clarins did a good job on this summer special! It’s definitely got me to rock the va-va-voom look and put down the pink 😉

..except for this pink:

IMG_0118It’s a sparkly almost nude/pink-hued balm that I use throughout the day. It’s great combined with a barely made-up face as it really underlines the whole “nude and natural” look. I carry Bebe’s chapstick with me wherever I go.

Moving on; I finally bought new earrings!

IMG_0112

Dangly earrings.

IMG_0111

IMG_0110

IMG_0109I love dangly earrings in the summer and can’t wait to show them round town 🙂

I also bring to you a cuteness update from my dogs. They haven’t been mentioned on the blog for a while and have been missing the spotlight 😉

IMG_0108I am taking them on long walks through the forest now that I am on holiday. It is scorching and humid here so miss Bala never passed up a chance to jump into the river…

IMG_0105The three of us really love our walks in the fresh, summer air.. but they also enjoy their afternoon naps immediately after..

IMG_0103

IMG_0107

IMG_0100They are sooooo cute..
