Paris Days 2 & 3

Sooooooooooooooo it’s been a while – I know. Almost 2 months of a while.

IMG_0382

Buuuuuuuut as you will read in the next couple of blog posts (which hopefully won’t take more than a few weeks to type up and publish 😉 ) I’ve been travelling H E A P S since finishing up the semester. But before I can get into any details, I need to wrap up reflecting on the trip to one of my favourite cities – Paris.

So here you have it, part 2 (or at least what I can remember of it, because well, it really has been a while…)

IMG_0332

IMG_0523

Days two and three were spent eating. A lot. And it was G R E A T!

IMG_0237

We started out with a walk to Rue Cler, for a visit zo L’Eclair – one of my favourite places for breakfast, brunch and dessert. Emphasis on the latter.

IMG_0284
IMG_0249Lots of emphasis on the latter…Especially in the form of cheesecake and warm chocolate cake after delicious, “healthier” and nutritious salads…We had to fight to finish the cake, but we didn’t give up easily 😉

IMG_0334

IMG_0278

I love to walk around cities when I have the time, and generally log around 25000 steps on average walking around Paris. Basically my walks are planned around where my next meals are… with some sights and shopping thrown in as well. I will forever be a foodie, discovering a city one bite at a time. I secretly feel one learns a lot about a country’s culture, tradition and of course delicacies through the stomach 😉 Our next stop after this feast was an ice cream & chit-chat date near the Notre Dame with a friend of mine from New York before heading to Kong for dinner.

IMG_0328

IMG_0338

One of my favourite dishes at Kong were the truffle udon noodles.

IMG_0324

Look at all the glorious truffle!IMG_0336

Dessert was exquisite as well. I had the salted caramel eclair. Fun fact: I love salted caramel and walked all around London on Friday night looking for some… but more about that when I blog about London 😉

IMG_0339

All the walking around and fully planned-out days (and copious amount of sugar) meant we were rather tired (read: food coma) by the evening and ended up asleep by 1 am in favour of checking out the French night scene.

On our last day, we browsed through the Guerlain boutique for a unique perfume and dug in to lunch at Ladurée before rushing to the airport for our flight back to Zurich. Verdict on the restaurant after never having been there before: stick to the macaroons and dessert… I’ve had better food elsewhere.

IMG_0369 IMG_0365 IMG_0423 Stay tuned for an update on where I went next and what I’m doing now!

Paris 2015 – Day 1

Happy Monday friendly faces! Hope your weekend was marvelous, and you enjoyed as much sunshine as I got to. Mine was rather low-key, spent “detoxing” (read: eating loads of fruit and veggies) and going to the gym, but I had a few busy days during the week! And as you can tell by the title of this post, those busy days were spent in Paris 🙂

IMG_0223

The first glimpse of la Tour Eiffel!

It was a super short, super spontaneous trip; we were there and back in only 2 days, but I enjoyed every single second of it! Paris is definitely my absolute favourite city, and the next trip is already in the works 😉

We landed around 10 in the morning, and took the train to Gare du Nord, munching on Luxembourgli we brought from Zürich. Pure decadence.

Once we got to the station, we figured out what metro we had to take to get to the hotel. We stayed at hotel Ekta. It was right off of Champs Élysées; great for shopping, but also great for safety while walking back at night – the busy main street is always alight with plenty of people walking around.

Upon check-in we took an hour to walk up and down and decide which shops we wanted to visit. The first one on my list was the renovated Guerlain boutique.

IMG_0369

They showed me their irresistible new scent, “mon exclusive”. I was told it was made specifically for the boutique, and lucky for me it isn’t as exclusive as I thought it was, as I could hopefully order the ravishing scent online. Although I do hope to make it back to Paris before then…

Our next stop was lunch at one of my favourite cafés in one of my favourite parts of the city.

IMG_0107

Breizh Café in Le Marais! Just walking around the area made me too happy for words – all the little boutiques, the bustling alleys, the different colours and scents… it’s just such a vibrant and lively part of Paris and always on my to-do list when I go. I definitely hope to stay around the area next time, as I would love to explore further than just this fine creperie.

IMG_0110

I had the goat cheese galette, and for dessert the rhubarb crepe. Galettes are made of buckwheat flour, so a great gluten-free option!

IMG_0215

IMG_0220

IMG_0158

We accompanied this meal with organic cider. Apparently they specialise in ciders and have an entire menu to select from! Personally not being much of a cider-conoisseur I expected it to be slightly sweeter… but it definitely was great with the meal!

IMG_0114

After our late lunch (we finished eating around 5) we walked through le Marais to Place des Voges – one of my favourite parks, not just because it is right next to a make up forever 😉

IMG_0225

IMG_0163

Through that little alley we got to Rue de Rivoli where we took the metro to the Louvre.

IMG_0174

IMG_0176

Paris to me is a city best walked. So I wanted to walk from the Louvre, through the Jardin des Tuileries, past Place de la Concorde back up Champs Élysées. And so we did!

IMG_0223

Which was also when I first glimpsed la Tour Eiffel!

IMG_0188

IMG_0191

Looking back at the Louvre.IMG_0192The Eiffel Tower, spotted again 🙂

IMG_0194

We got back to the hotel around 7.30, where we rested, made use of the wifi and ate a Caramel Fleur de Sel truffel from Sprüngli before heading back out to dinner, to an Italian restaurant called La Fabricca, which was right around the corner from the Arc de Triomphe. Get ready for a few pictures coming your way of the Arc and the sunset!

IMG_0213

IMG_0337After dinner, which was around 11 (the Parisians were still eating!) we walked back to the hotel for an “early night”.

I dare say we had a rather marvelous start to our short trip, don’t you think?

Obsession Alert: Code Red!

You guys. It is murder working at a magazine. I am SURROUNDED by all the products I want to try and I can’t do more than just test out a little on my hand… so sad 😦

I’ve resorted to drowning my sorrows in spoonfuls of peanut butter and endless Sephora “loves”. Seriously, it is an issue. I just bought a 500 g jar two days ago and it is already half empty.

Whoops

I tend to spoon feed myself more upon utter excitement, like when I found this eye cream. If only it weren’t so expensive…. and nut butter so calorific…

Whoops again

Also, I NEED this in my life. It would a) be “parfait” and b) my first Chanel makeup purchase… you have to start somewhere… the only thing is I can’t quite convince myself to spend the money on it because the colour is outrageously similar to this. But it’s Chanel so it should be ok.. right?

Have you guys watched Girl Code? It used to be on at the gym at SLC, and I found it ridiculous then – but after finding some relatively funny gifs and memes on Pinterest (that are sadly very accurate and applicable to me) I thought I would actually watch an episode without mute turned on. Now I am officially hooked. Goodbye social life… oh wait that’s gone anyways this weekend as I decided to stay here and know NOONE! I do have my eye on a cute barista though…..

Speaking of working out: I found an amazing gym here! I can’t wait to train more frequently…

IMG_1687

Oh I also wouldn’t mind a Lancôme lipstick or two… don’t blame me, blame Instagram like I do

Also, anyone want to take me to Paris sometime soon?

IMG_0138

IMG_0216

Because Maison Guerlain has opened the mothership of all beauty heavens. It’s an oasis full of everything from makeup to an in-house spa to a restaurant… It’s number 68 – I can’t believe I was so close last time!

IMG_0139

That was outside Louis Vuitton, but I would have rather seen Guerlain

my problems people… seriously…;)

And can someone find me this lock?

8412755091_2d308d5555_z

It’s currently my background on my phone!

Oh and on a completely non beauty/dance note, I love this song and this one, and this one

Actually maybe it is a slight dance note, as I can feel choreography-inspiration coming my way. You know I always seem to dance more after going to the gym? Weird…

Question of the day

What things are making your heart beat faster lately?

With attitude and nail polish, Anoushé xoxo

La Petite Robe Noire

You guys.
You wouldn´t believe what I’m doing for the month of March. You have three guesses. I’ll give you a hint: I may be in an office, but I’m surrounded by things I generally spend wads of money on.
Any guesses?
No?
Nothing?
I guess I’ll have to tell you then…
Little old me from this little old beauty blog out of little old Zürich is currently doing an internship for InStyle Beauty. Yup, you heard me, I’ve gone from Blog to Magazine (with a little help from a fairy godmother perhaps) and I will be working here until the clock strikes midnight at the end of the month.
Being an intern for the beauty section of a fashion magazine means it is now my job to smell perfumes, test nail polishes and read about sun care (yes that all happened today, Day 1) :), while also organising the merchandise, the press samples and advertisement in the thousands of folders around my desk. Being an intern I thought I would be the one fetching coffee, but today the only “odd job” I received was to get an electronic toothbrush to work, so we could test how it functions.
You cannot believe how excited I am to be sharing this news with you. I am in heaven. I’m surrounded by EVERYTHING to do with BEAUTY – old products, new products, products that aren’t even on the market, articles about the products, free samples of products; the list goes on and on… I feel very undercover-agenty knowing how they choose products for their latest articles and how they determine what’s good and what isn’t… and what’s going into next month’s Beauty edition!
 I’m mesmerized.
I’m almost equally excited about the nail polish I ‘m writing about for today’s Manicure Monday. It was an impulse purchase well-sold to me while I was picking out a new perfume. I have never bought myself a perfume and decided I had to finally find a signature scent all on my own… but alas, as you all know, I’m an absolute sucker for good salesmanship and cute names, and purchasing the nail polish as well as the perfume was no different a case.
IMG_1429
You see, this nail polish is not only very pretty and stylish, it also happens to have the same name as the perfume, which also matches a lipgloss that belongs to the same line (and was sold along with the perfume). Very smart Guerlain, very smart…
Yup, I melted on the spot at the thought of owning matching polish, perfume and lip gloss, all called la Petite Robe Noire. I can feel you all rolling your eyes at me but I felt the urge, to do what well put-together women back in the day used to do i.e. wear matching everything (or so I was told). Somehow I believed that their perfectly-outfitted spirits would somehow inspire me to become more organised. It was a well-meant thought – but as you can imagine, I have yet to wear all three products together.
IMG_1431
Nevertheless, I am currently sporting the polish and am quite fond of it. It is slightly darker than my skin tone and also slightly metallic. It’s a fun spring colour, which I can guarantee is totally in at the moment as I saw plenty of women at the office wearing similar shades 🙂 how’s that for being “en vogue”.
IMG_1433The brush is perfectly soft and wide – I barely messed up the manicure and was applying it on the train!
IMG_1436I’m in luuuuuuuurv and will be going back to buy another polish by Guerlain very very soon 😀
IMG_1435I can’t wait for my second day at InStyle! 🙂

Favourite Products of 2013

2013 is nearly over. It’s been an interesting year, full of new beauty finds, interesting experiences and finding time to understand more about me, myself and I. To end the year, I thought I would highlight some of my favourite and most-used beauty purchases of the year. Let’s see if 2014 can top them (I’m sure I’ll be spending enough time in stores looking for better 😉 )!

IMG_1092

Holding the prestigious number 1 position is the GIVENCHY PHENOMEN EYES mascara.
IMG_1094It’s an amazing product and the only one I’ve found to date that really gives me the “fake lash effect” (I must confess that I use more than just this mascara, but more about that later 😉 )

IMG_1054Spot number 2 goes to the BRAZIL NUT BODY MIST by the Body Shop.

IMG_1097It leaves me smelling like caramel, which leaves me happy with every spritz. Also, it is not very expensive (unlike other delicious perfumes), so you don’t feel guilty when applying it liberally, frequently 🙂

Number 3 this year is this ORIGINS Charcoal MaskIMG_1102This was an impulse buy and I immediately went back to Sephora to purchase a second. The mask works wonders to my skin!

IMG_0866Ready for number 4?

IMG_1108The Body Shop’s Vanilla Shimmer Body Lotion has been a favourite for many years now, and it has not once disappointed me. It leaves a soft, lightly-lingering vanilla scent, which pairs well with the Brazil Nut Mist mentioned above. More importantly however, my skin is covered in glitter after using it. WIN/WIN 🙂

For number 5 I chose SEPHORA SCENTED NAIL POLISHIMG_1111The colour is a beautiful, barbie, bubblegum pink and stayed scratch free for much longer than most of my other polishes. This could very much have something to do with the fact that it is SCENTED and smells like STRAWBERRIES! 🙂 I also own the shade “Grapefruit”

Number 6IMG_1109

and also number 7 actually

IMG_1110I love the GUERLAIN Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder for the reasons stated here and many many more. This paired with the oh so soft BRUSH that I bought at the Body Shop leaves me excited to apply, and let alone wear, makeup every day!

IMG_1093

Onwards to the next product!IMG_1100Number 8 is another oldie but goodie. CLARINS Gel Contour des Yeux has been part of my morning routine for a while now, and I’m not planning on betraying it any time soon 🙂 It definitely leaves my eyes feeling “de-puffed” in the morning, lending me the “fresh and awake” look I am constantly striving for.

It works even better when paired with number 9 CLARINS Wake Up Booster

IMG_1096It’s name says it all.

Number 10 is the newest addition to my makeup repertoire

IMG_1095This SMASHBOX BROWTECH TO GO was a bit of an impulse buy at Sephora in Paris, where I was suckered into believing making my eyebrows darker was easier and less time-consuming than plucking them every few days.. hmm interesting theory. Needless to say, I use the “wax” part of it much more now than the “pencil” part. I learned my “brow-drawing lesson” the hard way (super dark eyebrows.. scary times)… but it’s still a great, all-round product!

With all this mascara I’ve been wearing lately, number 11 has become even more important than usual.

IMG_1106

I decided to try the Body Shop’s CAMOMILE Waterproof Makeup Remover after reading about their more “gentle” line. I’ve always found eye makeup removers to be very irritating (also extremely natural ones, like the one by LUSH!) and wasn’t expecting this one to be any better, but was positively astonished by the results!

Number 12 is what I put on after a long night, or after removing really tricky, waterproof eye makeup.

IMG_1104It’s another oldie but goodie, but I haven’t researched a possible replacement enough yet to give up the BOBBY BROWN HYDRATING EYE CREAMI must admit, it does sting slightly when applying it after removing tough makeup, but other than that it definitely helps me look fresher the morning after a party night!

When I don’t have much eye makeup to remove, I stick with number 13: FRESH SOY FACE CLEANSER

IMG_1107It gets the job done. I’ve only been using this interchangeably with my other products for a short while now, but so far I’m preferring this one to my usual suspects..I also love other products by FRESH and hope to try more some day!

Number 14 is another evening product

IMG_1103

Pantene Pro V Intensive Night Spray Care is great on days where you didn’t have time to deeply condition your hair. Simply spray a bit into your mane before going to bed, and you wake up with a head of soft, luscious hair!

Lancome Teint Miracle holds place 15. I’ve been using this for over 2 years now, and have not found any other colour that really matches my complexion.

IMG_1098

I’m thinking about trying out their Teint Idole Ultra 24 h next, as this bottle is nearly empty and I sometimes want a bit more cover than this gives.

Number 16 absolutely had to be this face mask.

IMG_1101

KIEHL’S RARE EARTH DEEP POR CLEANSING MASQUE won my heart the second I tested it. It cools my skin and clears it perfectly enough, so that I don’t feel a need to pick around at the “barely there pores” on my nose.

And finally, number 17 and 18. Both are used more when I go out to parties and want to highlight aspects of my face, or just feel the need to shine a bit more than usual 😉

IMG_1099The Body Shop’s SPARKLER  is used primarily to glitz up my hair and décolleté, and BENEFIT’S HIGH BEAM is painted onto my cheekbones when I wish to highlight the contours of my face, or don’t feel like using a powder blush.

IMG_1105

And there you have it. My top picks for the year 2013. Some have been in use for more than just this year, others only made the cut a few weeks ago, but all in all, I love each and every one of these products, as they enhance each other perfectly and help me take the utmost care of myself, whether by cleansing my face properly or by making me happy, simply by enjoying the scent.

It’s been a good year. I’ve really learned what works for my skin and where I still need to work a little more on figuring out the know-how. 🙂

Current Craze: Glitter

Tis the season for all things alight, sparkly and glittery!

IMG_0887And I’m not just speaking about the holiday lights and Christmas decorations! “All that glitters is gold”  also goes for makeup! From shimmering eyeshadow to glittery eyeliner, shiny lip gloss and luminous highlighters – it’s time to sparkle and shine and give the beautiful Christmas lights a run for their money 😉

I currently have a few favourites that I use regularly when I go out or need a glittery pick me up (sparkles make me feel all princessy ;)). I’ve also noticed a general increase in my use of glitter during the holiday season…

I mix this product by Becca into my foundation to add a little oomph.

IMG_0901It is a highlighter and gives off a hint of shimmer on my face. I chose to mix it in to my basic foundation, but you can also use it on its own as a skin brightener when you don’t want to wear any makeup, or as a highlighter on your cheekbones to add a shimmering accent instead of blush or bronzer. It gives a nice gleam to a Vitamin D lacking face, making you look awake and fresh whenever light hits it – perfect for the Winter!

Next I have a few products that I have already been using for many, many years. Some are more suited for holidays and others are, like the Becca shimmering skin perfector above, great additions to my daily routine.

IMG_0907

I have always been a fan of the Body Shop. Their Body Butters, lotions and shower gels have always been staples on my bathroom shelf, especially after my 13th birthday when no one knew what to get me and The Body Shop was the easiest and most enjoyable present they could think of. I got so many products, that some are still unopened and on my shelf! Crazy..

Anyhow, the one product I always make sure to stock up on in the winter is the shimmering body lotion. I mix it with regular body butter to add some sparkle to any exposed skin. My favourite scent is Vanilla, which is probably obvious as it’s the only one that is nearly empty (I’ve had these bottles for over a year now..)

IMG_0908

The Body Shop truly understands my passion and craving for sparkly glitter this time of year. Why else would they release a shimmering product for the face, and a glitter spritzer exactly a month or so before Christmas?

IMG_0912These shimmer pearls are beautiful and add a hint of colour and shimmer with each brush stroke. I purchased this after falling in love with my absolute favourite Guerlain Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder, but not in love with its price tag.

IMG_0909

Whenever I open up the pretty, princess case, I enjoy the light, flowery scent and the beauty of the pearls. The various colours make for an even, lightly blushing shimmer, and the powder never gets stuck on the brush, read: no cake-y look! C’est magnifique! To save this glorious product though, I’ve been dialling back the use and replaced it with the less expensive, more shimmering version by the Body Shop – which is a win/win as more glitter is perfect right now 🙂

IMG_0911Once you have your basic shimmer covered, you sometimes need a bit more glitter. I often like to spray a bit in my hair for a bit of a va-va-voom effect when I go out.

IMG_0913I bought the one on the left a few years ago and use it sparingly. The one on the right was a present. I absolutely adore the vintage-glam feel of the bottle – they’re perfect bathroom decoration! I’ve only ever used them on their own, but wonder what they would look like mixed. Both colours work well with my dark brown hair, and add a bit of extra twinkle when I want to feel extra special 🙂

IMG_0914

Question of the Day: Do you add in more glittery products around the holiday season?

With attitude and nail polish, Anoushé xoxo

Therapy for the Conceal-a-Holic

Obsession Alert

This eyeliner by Guerlain in Brun Cendré. It’s soooo preeeeetty!

Artliner by Lancome. Yes, I have (yet another) problem with a beauty product. But I also have an excuse: I’m running out of liquid eyeliner!

Summer = Bronzer = Glitter = Yaay!

Caramel scented perfume? Don’t mind if I do…

Nut butter, again. I’m nuts for nuts! But this isn’t just any kind of nut butter…It’s cookie dough nut butter! YUUMM!

Vegan Homemade White Chocolate Chips… need I say more?

OPI. Liquid. Sand. Nail polish! One even in the same color as my most recent Manicure Monday Post! Me = Trend. Setter 😉

A major round of awwwwwww. These pups are cute, but not as cute as my two doggies. Seeing the video did bring back old memories of when the two were puppies though 🙂

As you can see I have more than one obsession.. I’m a girl with many issues favorite things, and will often share with you what I am currently obsessing about 😀
