Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

I feel like I’m a VIP.

Invitations to product launches, lunches of delicious food at a table covered with makeup samples to test and take home, chilling on the rooftop of a hotel sipping cocktails while listening to the presentation about the release of a world-changing bracelet… I LOVE my job.

I started loving it even more when I was invited to the launch party of Urban Decay.

Urban Decay was one of the first brands I fell in love with at Sephora all those many years ago. I loved the name, the colours and the eyeshadow palettes (I have yet to own their signature Naked palette, but adore my colourful, Ammo one). Whenever I stop by a store, I tend to pick up an eyeliner or bazillion two because I simply cannot resist their amazing choice of colours and you all know how much I appreciate a beautifully lined eye… especially if I am in the mood to coordinated my eye-makeup with my outfit. A splash of blue, purple or green is sometimes all you need when you want your eyes to really be a hit and are in no mood for extensive eyeshadow blending. (Funny enough, I actually applied my 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner in the morning before realizing I had the event to attend later that day!)

So after hearing how excited I get about their selection, you can imagine my reaction to the event…

And I was STARSTUCK when I got to meet the founder of the brand! 😀

I left for the office with my hand striped with ANYTHING that might suit my eyes: Blues, greens, purples and golds in various nuances – with or without glitter – definitely spruced up my outfit. I was not ashamed to be beauty-crazy and did not remove the eyeliner until before going to bed…. and I am glad I did because it gave me a chance to test the acclaimed “24/7 strength to last”  at the gym later on…

2 hours after sweat session

2 hours after sweat session

Before hitting the gym I attempted to rub the eyeliners off with my finger – they didn’t budge. I tried again after sweating (a terrible amount) for 2 hours – again, the lines looked just as pigmented and resisted the wipe!

If that isn’t long-lasting I don’t know what is!

Same thing for my eye makeup that I applied in the morning:

Still there after 2 hours…

A definite WIN (with the only casualty being my extreme wing that wore down throughout the day…)

Verdict: YES! YES! YES! I cannot wait for Urban Decay to come to Germany so I can own all the colours and leave the gym with still fabulous eyes when my red, blotchy face might be letting me down… Oh the woes of a gym-junkie 😉

And fear not my dears: Even though sweat, blood and tears couldn’t get the liners to budge, a simple wipe of eye-makeup remover freed my hand from the stripyness immediately! Talk about AH-Mazing 🙂

Question of the day:

Have you tried Urban Decay? How did you like it?

Makeup Forever Aqua Liner

My legs are KILLING me from yesterday’s Les Mills workout session! I wasn’t feeling particularly fit and energetic, but I am so head over heels in love with Step that I pushed through. What’s more, the trainer included some salsa-ey steps and told us to work it like Beyoncé – FIERCE! Made my day 😀

Love BodyPump

Love BodyPump

Although my legs were burning after, I stayed and pumped my way through BodyPump, and guess what: I increased the weights and barely took any breaks! Weighted lunges are still a tad bit too painful, but my arms are finally getting stronger! Woop Woop 😀

Now doing two classes back to back – each telling you beforehand that you should be prepared to REALLY sweat – could lead to blotchy makeup and streaked eyeliner. My Makeup Forever Aqua Liner didn’t let me down though!

This was at the office, before heading out to the class…

And this was 2 h and 25 minutes later!

The colour was still there, albeit not as winged… I remained streak and smudge free throughout the sweat sesh! 🙂

Verdict: This eyeliner definitely did not let me down! And after doing a little research, I learned that Makeup Forever is also Cirque du Soleil’s brand of choice! So if it’s good enough for all those amazing gymnasts and performers then it is definitely good enough for a (in comparison) “short” gym visit!

If you can’t take the heat…

When I moved to Munich, I was planning to stay here for a month and see where life took me. I went to work in the mornings, and cooked dinner in the evenings, without really trying to build a life here. I went back to Zürich nearly every weekend and thought nothing of it because in just a few short weeks, I would be returning to my beloved home anyways… right? Wrong

I’ve been living here for nearly three months now, and have finally gotten myself a gym membership, let alone gotten to know the city a little. Yup, it took me three months… despite being a self-proclaimed socialite and an actual fan of the gym, I just never seemed to bother.

In my defence though, I did go jogging nearly every morning with my Aunt for the first month which was great, but once I started at MADAME, my commute was longer so my time to exercise was shorter. I did what anyone would do: I just skipped my workouts…and walked around town on my way home instead (bad news for my bank account, good for my mental health, I guess?).

Now, after moving into a really cute apartment with two wonderful roommates 10 minutes away from where I work, I decided to finally get that membership. I was on the fence about it for a while because I also really miss my dance classes, but after figuring out that the gym specializes in Les Mills workouts, I knew I had to join!

I’m just nuts for Bodypump! I also signed up for a Jazz class every Wednesday, but that doesn’t start until next week.

Now, long introduction and general blabbing aside, I want to bring you to the actual topic of this post. There is a point and logic to all my madness. This post is about my one beauty staple everyone knows I will not leave the house without… I bring to you eyeliner at the gym.

I leave the office between 6.30 and 7 and head straight to my workout while eating a Quest bar, i.e I am still “all dolled up”. I have yet to figure out whether I want to remove my makeup before my workouts, but for now I tend to leave my “natural” look on – and I want it to be worth it!

You see, if there is one thing that I can’t stand, then it is streaked makeup and running eyeliner (and super red cheeks and über-amounts of sweating, but I guess I have to live with those reactions to working out..)

So before I end up looking like a heart-broken mess (read: red nose and eyeliner down my cheeks, which generally happens when you cry with a full face of makeup OR you’re me and just do that at the gym) after a workout (gee, thanks sweat) I decided to put my favourite eyeliners to the test, because seriously, that is a sight my fellow gym-junkies should NOT be seeing.

You’re welcome.

And yes, just removing my makeup would be easier, but, well, (as my much-loved Maths teacher used to say) why do things easily if you could do them the hard way; I would “rather” put my makeup up to the challenge.

So can they take the blood, sweat and tears heat?

This week I used L’Oréal Blockbuster Eyeliner during my sweat sesh.

Pre Workout

Pre Workout

All intact

All intact

I applied my eyeliner in the morning around 8 am.

Classic wing look, as always.

On my workout schedule today were some bodyweight exercises and some light cardio.

Half an hour into my workout, I checked up on my eyeliner:

Glistening, and light streaks, but otherwise not too much damage….

An hour later, another check (yes, I got a few stares due to all my weird eye selfies… oh the life of a blogger)

I did get a great workout in though…and the streaks were easy to wipe away.. but they kept on returning…

Verdict: I think this eyeliner should be removed if you are planning to sweat. Otherwise the cute guys will not be looking at your beauty, but will be scared away by ghastly streaks down your cheeks!

With that said though, I probably will just avoid using this eyeliner on days I know I will be working out, as I honestly know I am too lazy to wash my face before AND after a workout (Which is technically the “wise” thing to do..)

Question of the day

Do you remove your makeup before working out?

Or do you use certain products to ensure your cute look remains intact?

My Signature Thang

I have always adored women who appear to have their lives under control. It is a trait I hope to one day master.

Sometimes I seem to associate this effortless elegance with Paris: Whenever I hear about graceful women my mind wanders to Café de Flore, and envision a naturally beautiful woman wearing pearls, a classic Chanel jacket, cigarette pants and kitten heels. I picture a mix of Audrey Tautou, Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, and all of the French designer’s muses sitting at a table with red lipstick that doesn’t stain her glass filled with sparkling rosé, a plate of exquisite food before her, attracting the attention of any person to ever lay eyes on her.

I also imagine this lady to have the class and etiquette of a generous and timeless Iranian woman, with a brain and who knows very well who she wishes to be and that she is in control of her life.

I hope to one day be that kind of woman. Every day I meet people and see things that inspire me to become that envisioned woman sitting in Café de Flore. Whether it is my Aunt who naturally set a glass of water and a bowl of raw nuts by my bed just in case I was hungry, my mom who stayed true to her beloved skinny jeans and cowboy boots, owning her outfit because it is timeless, and who always reminded me that a woman should always be classy (yes, these comments were generally made when I was younger and begged to wear short shorts or mini skirts) and taught me the art of entertaining – Persian style, my other Auntie who inspires me with her positive outlook and love for the power of yoga, or my grandmother who looks more glamorous than Elizabeth Taylor and was even recently described as extremely elegant at the Sarah Lawrence Admitted Students Day that she accompanied me to.

109663-Nice+happiness+happy+quotes+thAs you see, I have a lot of dreams and plans as to who I wish to become and how I hope to be perceived. I have already started to plan certain things like to start writing a journal, to send thank you letters and hand written cards, to finally get my room organised and to make it look more grown up… and to finally have a signature look/character trait/inspiring way of life. A way people can remember me by. I long ago established my bouncy and talkative personality for which many people know and appreciate me, but sometimes I wish to recreate old ways… I want to be known for who I am and no longer for who I am meant to/trying to be, for sometimes, once my spunkiness was established, I felt I could no longer be any different and was even introduced as “that girl who I once told you about”. It puts you under a lot of pressure when you know you absolutely must be happy 24/7…

And that is why I started to express myself through dance, and let myself get inspired by the Evil Eye and dramatic eyeliner. I adore what the Hamsa Hand and the Evil Eye represent and choose to wear it every day. Wearing bracelets has always been a thing people have known me for, and now I have established it further by adding meaning to it. I also love to wear the Om symbol – it reminds me to stay calm and collected throughout the day (not always successful, but at least I’m trying ;))

And recently, the winged eyeliner has become my thing. Sometimes I keep it discreet, sometimes I tune it up with colours and mascara… but it is always there! And slowly I am creating my own look…

Therapy for the Conceal-a-Holic

  • I have fallen hard for these shoes. They are so comfy, I feel like I’m walking on clouds. They’re my little inuit shoes 😀
  • La Vie est Belle and La petite Robe Noire are my two new favourite fragrances. I’m also considering the purchase of Flowerbomb…. 😉
  • I can’t seem to get enough of this songIMG_1319
  • Also, Animal puns.. they’re my new favourite thing!IMG_1318
  • Anyone feel like baking me cookies? These look really good…please?
  • I have a new favourite author. Do you know her?  I want to be her. Seriously! I own all her books and have devoured them in the shortest time ever!
  • Speaking of books.. I wish my life were like Angela Clark’s. I mean.. I don’t necessarily want to catch my boyfriend cheating and break my best friend’s new husband’s hand with a Louboutin..but the rest – I want the rest. Is that too much to ask?
  • I NEED this eyeliner.. but really though. I seem to go through eyeliners so much more lately..It’s my new thing!

Have a great Saturday!

Would you rather..

I came across this “Would you rather” post on a Perfect Masquerade and Ginger Loves Makeup. Thank you so much Rebecca for the tag! It was hard to resist answering all these fun questions! Feel free to join in too! 🙂

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?

Although mascaras and lipsticks aren’t a part of my daily makeup, they still play a vital part in my party makeup, and I could never imagine going out without false-looking lashes! And don’t even get me started on eyeliner.. I live for it – how else would I be able to pull of my signature “winged eyes”?! Definitely would be able to live without eye shadows.. they are purely embellishment 😉

My "wings"

My “wings”

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

Hmmm.. tough question. I used to have super long hair and wasn’t ever really allowed to cut it. To this day my mom freaks out whenever I go to the hairdressers: “Your hair is too short!” (when it is over shoulder length..). I do enjoy long hair, and I think I’ll go with never being able to cut it again. I have a friend from India who has never cut her hair and it really is beautiful and not that hard to manage – plus, to me, it is more appealing than chopping it all off!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Pink – who doesn’t like the idea of romantic, rosy cheeks like in the fairy tales?

4. If you had £1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Oh god. I think I would have to split it in half! I mean, honestly, I know I should be saying clothes, because I’ve technically got enough makeup to last me a couple of months years…  That just goes to show where I spend the majority of my money, so the cosmetic-holic inside of my would definitely go with makeup over clothes…although I wouldn’t mind having another Miss Sixty shopping spree.. 😉

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

When push comes to shove, I’ll go with eyeliner as lipstick. You never know what situation you might be in where this would come in handy..

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

SEPHORA!!!!!! Must I remind you I have a VIB ROUGE MEMBERSHIP CARD? I basically live in SEPHORA!!!

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?

Hmm.. I mostly do a lot of eye makeup and tone it down on the lips (albeit I do love the classic red from time to time), so I think if I had to, I would survive just fine with my Bebe Young Care Shimmer Chapstick (although I do love the Clarins Red)

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Easy. Take summer clothes + tights/leggings –> winter outfit!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

My parents always pick on my for my brightly coloured nails.. those are definitely my go-to. Shamelessly I don’t really care about nail trends and “what is right”

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?

Ugh. Don’t like this one. As mentioned above I love the Bebe Young Care chapstick. I have yet to find a respectable replacement. Eye products.. well I have my favourites but seeing as they have changed over the years I guess I could give that up…(I will never give up my GIVENCHY mascara though. NEVER!)

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?

Easy. When I’m not wearing my hair down, I have it in a ponytail. It’s the only reasonable ‘do for sports. Plus, I have never managed to make the messy bun work for me… any tips?

12. Would your rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

Bare Nails? I can’t. Stop the torture. I will never be able to erase the idea out of my mind! (answer your question enough? 🙂 )

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

Neither. I have learned to love my Persian Eyebrows. Seriously, it used to be an issue…feel the love people!

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

Oh god. This question… well. I did survive a few months in theUS without using much makeup… so I guess I could do it. I don’t know for how long, but I could. Now, no nail polish.. that is a definite no no 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!
