Thinking out Loud Thursday

Happy Thursday friendly faces! I’ve been busy with University work so I thought it would be a perfect time for a random slew of thoughts!

Thinking-Out-Loud2

Thank you Amanda for hosting!

1. I found this picture a while back and am not sure if I posted it or not, but I am still very much in love with the adorable unicorn believing in us! 🙂

IMG_1875

2. Persian food is where it’s at. We celebrated our New Year last week (happy 1394!) and while I’m still drafting that post, I thought I would entice you with a few delectable images of my favourite part of a Persian feast:

IMG_1893 IMG_1888 IMG_1891 IMG_1887IMG_8471

The crispy, crunchy, buttery crust that forms around the rice. Scrumptious! P.S My grandpa created a very special type of tahdig you can salivate over in the first few pictures; it contains all 3 kinds of crispy goodness: Bread, potato and rice!

3. I have finally received some of the photos from our LA trip! Will be blogging about the amazingness very very soon!

IMG_8256

4. Have you ever heard of a pugle? It’s a pug/beagle mix. I’m not sure whether I find them adorable or alieny… what do you think?

IMG_8448

5. Speaking of dogs, I took the munchkin to class a few weeks ago. Yeah.. not the best decision ever.

IMG_7970She sat rather still for the first few MINUTES but then decided to explore her surroundings – much to my fellow students entertainment. I however could not concentrate at all and ended up with little to no notes…

IMG_8389

There is another dog (the pug Kaiser) who accompanies his owner to class every day! I just received a video of him this morning and will share that with you soon 🙂

6. I managed to convince this guy to come to a big party with me at Aura a few weekends ago.

IMG_8331

Look how long my hair has gotten!

7. I recently fell in love with Shellack manicures.

IMG_8505 IMG_8510 IMG_8513This one is inspired by the great Jin Soon Choi.

8. Sushi. It’s why I am currently broke.

IMG_8378Currently saving up to eat more of those tempura rolls!! Also still going crazy over cheese! I want it on everything and anything. Especially eating it pure as fondue/raclette has been rather high on my list of to-dos lately. Weird, but I am not complaining 😉

9. IMG_8146What do you guys think of the Maple Macchiato? I personally find it too sweet with the added vanilla syrup so opt for a soya cappuccino with maple topping instead, as I do quite like the drizzle.

IMG_8131

10. And finally, I realise I haven’t been posting much about the gym, dance or anything sporty lately (let alone make-up…) but I swear I have been busy moving my bod (and applying beautiful colours)! I have taken up yoga again, try to make it to body pump at least once a week, recently performed in a whirling show

IMG_8190

and am also working hard on my flexibility.

IMG_8046

I’ll be sharing a few posts on my current obsessions as soon as I have gotten a good chunk of work done!

Until then, have a great week!

With attitude and nail polish, Anoushé xoxo

Keep Calm and Carry On

It takes 22 days to form a new habit. Breaking one can happen almost immediately when procrastination is involved… So with the approaching exams at the end of the semester scaring me just a little more each week, I soon fell into the habit of not blogging. I mean, the last time I posted anything was the end of October, which my father has kindly been reminding me every so often. In a perfect world, I would have used my time productively and studied – for each minute not invested in my blog, I could’ve at least spent the time revising and summarising. But as is normal in the life of a student, studying is not always a pleasure and I soon let one of my vices control my “spare time”, leading me to binge-watch all the TV I could find; I watched all of 30 Rock, Real Housewives, About a Boy and Devious Maids just to name a few, while also keeping up with all my usual favourites. To say I might have a problem is an understatement – I suffer from couch-potato-syndrome so to say… from extreme TV-Junkieness.. from no longer being the Grade-A Nerd I used to be in high school. Long gone were the days I could study for 12 hours straight because I only had two days before my biology exam – something even my best and closest friends just couldn’t comprehend. To them I was still the crazy studier, not the procrastinator I had secretly become. And this fear of no longer being “who I used to be” made me panic. I felt incapable, undeserving, and stupid. My concentration was depleted, my willpower gave in, my nights became restless, but my days were spent in bed due to lack of sleep. A few weeks before my exams I even lost my appetite. My panic attacks increased to a point where I would cry myself to sleep at night – I was so disappointed in myself, in my actions, in the way I conducted myself during the semester…I was nowhere as prepared as I wanted myself to be – I had not succeeded in reaching the goals I had set, and yes, while I might have expected a bit too much from myself, I know what I am capable of – and what I delivered this semester was just unacceptable to me.

IMG_6848

Going in to the semester I had set myself one ultimate goal, and that was to see it through. After spending some time after graduation soul-searching I knew that I had finally found the suitable field of study, and completing the semester had to be manageable, as for the first time I was actually enjoying what I was doing….

IMG_6984

…and long sob story short, I am proud to say that I did exactly that: Despite feeling unprepared I took all 4 of my exams. This is a big step for me, as in the last 2 years shying away from failure became my new normal, rather than actually seeing anything through. Taking the exams helped me reclaim the confidence I used to have… and it all paid off in the end!

Ladies and gentlemen of the blog world, I am officially a student. I passed all of my exams – albeit not as well as I wanted to but I was honestly prepared for the worst. I was truly ecstatic  when I saw that I had passed all exams of my major, and absolutely flabbergasted when I passed my business minor, because I was more than ready to choose a different course…

IMG_7556

My friends and family tried hard to keep me calm during this whole process, but I took their words of wisdom for granted and continued to spiral into one panic attack after another. Passing my exams has taught me that I am capable, I can be a student, I can excel, and I can be whoever I want to be. And I believe a massive thank you for everyone’s patience is in order! I really was a mess these last few months, but hope to have regained my strength (for now at least). I also had the cutest study buddy giving me plenty of cuddles while I was cut off from all other contact.

IMG_7063 IMG_7043

I just need to kick the habit of TV-show watching in the butt. But I’ve got one more week before the next semester starts to do that 😉

Also I owe you guys sooooo many blogposts. Loads has happened; my birthday, Christmas, New Years.. a trip to California… and I do plan on keeping you all up to date more frequently now 🙂

Talk soon!

Finally a weekend with Friends… MARVELOUS

This Saturday I decided to spend quality time with actual humans instead of huddled up in front of my laptop and hanging out with the Munchkin.

IMG_4169

Although Seti is a very cute munchkin…

I hadn’t seen my friends in 3 + weeks. I never wanted to plan anything at the weekend so that I could give myself enough time to get things done…. But this tactic tends to lead me to having more time to procrastinate rather than me actually getting more work done.. so moral of the story: Take breaks, have fun and embrace your social life (in moderation?).

IMG_4172

IMG_4184

I mean, okay, maybe I over exaggerated a little. I did “go out” as in leave the house for my favourite stretching and body pump classes every weekend, but because those are at really annoying, mid-day times, they really mess with my time-management (or lack thereof). So I was thus faced with the difficult choice between socializing and working out (I generally chose the latter for highly justifiable reasons: Once I am out with my friends, I am OUT... so if I “just” workout I technically should be investing more time into my studies… technically..).

I did however do at least 1 marvelous thing each weekend.. let me start with weekend 1:

MiMM

Friday: Lichthof Party in the main University building. This was a once in a lifetime experience where we got to dance in the actual building. The great part about this party was that EVERYONE was there because it was the place to be if you were a student, i.e. I got to see a lot of my old classmates, which is always a treat after being away and losing touch with so many.

There were 3 dance “halls”, one of which was being DJayed by none other than Nachtseminar… so you probably know where I spent most of my time right?

Have I mentioned I have started flyering for my favourite party?

IMG_4022

Weekend 2, I didn’t go out (shocker) but enjoyed a wonderful dinner with my mom on Sunday.

IMG_1834

Crêpes for dinner and dessert? I will take it 🙂 Restaurant recap definitely coming soon, but I need to revisit the quaint café for some better pictures first 🙂 (and more dessert…)

And finally last weekend: I started my weekend by FINALLY going to dance class! It felt great to be “home”, but I was in mega pain on Saturday… not dancing (except for in clubs – no judgement) for 6 months really has a remarkable impact on your body.. like mine totally forgot which muscles to use, and my legs were shaking during both hours (Barre a Terre and Jazz).

IMG_4158

On Saturday, I met up with some of my girlfriends for drinks at Grande – my second favourite place after Dante (actually they are head to head as they are both owned by the same owner, i.e same concept, same cocktails.)

I went all out with the mascara… going out is such a “special occasion” now that I really took my time and made an ordeal out of my makeup routine…

IMG_4173

IMG_4174Obligatory Amaretto Sour

We sat outside due to lack of space and soon started to feel the October chill… my friends wanted to “warm up” with some pizza (I was still full of Kabocha, addiction obsession still going strong (I eat it almost daily, and devour an entire squash in warp speed #sorrynotsorry)), but the place we went to was out, so we did what any cold student would do… we went to Starbucks.

IMG_4187

And since I am now studying Media- and Communications, I feel like I should state that this is unintentional product placement…. we just like to hang out there.. a lot

I had steamed soy milk with a pump of pumpkin spice syrup. Tis the season after all… #allthepumpkin #allthetime

IMG_4175

IMG_4181

We felt like 16-year old high school students again, where you were “forced” to hang out at Starbucks because you were too young for bars (technically allowed to drink wine and beer at 16 here, but I never cared for it then..). This déja vù called for a #throwback selfie!

I was in bed, lights out at 1. The polar opposite of my usual self… but I had a paper to complete and body pump to attend #favouriteworkout

IMG_4186 IMG_4161

I also ate more kabocha, took a few naps and walked the munchkin. Oh, and I tested a new overnight mask from Origins… blog post coming soon (along with the other one that I had promised… saving that for my next, longish, study break 😉 )

IMG_4183So that’s all for now! Not much besides eat, sleep, sports, study, occasional outing and repeat, but I promise to report back with my promised posts ASAP!

Have a great Tuesday! I just did my nails while reading for class tomorrow and am now off to a dance class… talk about productive, huh 🙂

IBIZA 2014

Hello hello 🙂 Look who’s being a model blogger and posting regularly again – I’m back baby 😉

As promised on Sunday, I bring to you a recap of my spectacular week on none other than my fav of the Islas Baleares: EIVISSA (or Ibiza in non Catalan terms a.k.a Spanish)

IMG_1926

I mentioned to you about a year ago that I feel a real connection to this particular island’s vibe… something about the hippy-ish, party thing they’ve got going on while still being sort-of down to earth and chilled really speaks to me. I guess the island sort of describes me well: I’ve got that wild, open, fun, talkative, party personality (read: hyperactive mojo that I cannot (will not) switch off) while also love the little things described on most dating homepages ** like oh I don’t know let’s say long walks on the beach (yawn ?), captivating discussions on life (yikes), beautiful flowers (well who doesn’t), pretty bracelets (which is just ma thang) and and and and… a really good sangria? Or does that fit into “party” ? Nevertheless: me and Ibiza, we just go together like PB and J, ok?

IMG_1883

(**sidenote: I have yet to desperately sign up on one, but we girls all seem to think alike and think certain “fun facts” attract a particular “type” (uhm, NOT) so I have a presumption on what one might find there.. okay? 😉 )

425

My mom and I first started vacationing on the infamous party island when dear friends of ours invited us back in 2002. My mom being her slightly paranoid self (and I say this in the utmost loving way) couldn’t imagine why our friends would choose a drugged up, boozy British infested island as a family vacation destination and politely declined with each and every passing Summer – until said year. I don’t know how much begging and pleading went in to her booking our flights there, but knowing her will-power is far stronger than mine (I can melt like butter in a frying pan if convinced with plausible arguments… and am not too bull-headed about the idea in the first place, otherwise I can be strong like an Amazonian too  😉 ) I can imagine it took plenty of convincing… and we were both glad she “caved”: We proceeded to visit Ibiza every single following Summer.

Here is a quick photo blast from the past:

40217_10150233530970245_1682564_n

We soon discovered the hidden jewels the island had to offer.. sure it is known for its parties (and they really can be as awesome as raved about) but Ibiza also offers loads of culture, history and ambience…

539

And so you can imagine the amount of memories we had established by the time my father thought it was his turn to explore the magical island… And explore he did: My plan for this holiday was to show him the places I found particularly special about the island, not the places he would normally be invited to. I made a point of going to the usual “hangouts” – places my mom and I discovered – as it truly was hard for me to be there without her for a full week and I couldn’t bear not experiencing the same adventures (the last time I was only there for 2 days, also with my father.. my mom and I sadly haven’t been back since I was 16).

IMG_1960

But of course reliving a moment sometimes makes you forget the creation of new ones.. I don’t know how many times I annoyed my dad with: “Well Mommy would have done this differently” instead of just embracing the fact that, despite it being the same island, the same place and sometimes the same friends around us, it just couldn’t be the same experience. Looking back I probably should’ve taken my own advice to heart and tried to “live a little, loosen up, “yolo”, not compare as much to the past, stop living in the past generally….” But we’ve all been there, and done that (I think).. and as already mentioned it is becoming a big goal of mine to stop worrying/over thinking and just LIVE.

IMG_1958

Carpe Diem, and all that jazz…

For example: the scene: We went to my favourite sunset café in the world (Café del Mar) and then went to the cutest place where they only serve Pan con Tomate (bread with some tomato spread on top), the best manchego cheese and jamón – that’s it. Talk about not being very paleo 😉

IMG_1969

IMG_1967

Anyhoo, by the time we had relaxed, enjoyed the music, the sunset  and dinner, our original plan of heading to Pacha for Steve Aoki was slowly starting to feel too overwhelming… what – you want me to put on makeup, a dress and high-heels and go pay too much for 1 night of music and terrible pick-up lines? Uhm..

But then my dad came to the rescue and said he would drive us there (at like 1 am) if we got ready ASAP. Note: I hadn’t showered yet and my friend was about to fall asleep, because, well we thought we were going to be boring and not go after all.

So at 1.30 we were walking into the club…and danced…and were thrown cake at (I had whipped cream ON MY ARM – Aoki is CRAY CRAY)… and had the most AMAHZING time.

I will be uploading some videos from that night and the night I saw Calvin Harris (OMG) later, as WordPress seems to have trouble with large videos…

Now having a fun girlfriend along for the trip not only meant fun disco party nights, but also waaaaaay too many pictures. The rest of this post will be conducted with limited commentary (I know, almost impossible for me 😉 )

Oh and for those of you who kept on scrolling and reading all the way until the end, here is a treat:

IMG_1966

DAVID GUETTA WAS AT THE BEACH WITH US. But of course, when we went up to him and asked for an autograph, he was too busy relaxing… he didn’t however say that to the skimpy-dressed girls who asked as well… shame

Looking back at these pictures make me want to up and leave for the island again.. I had such an amazing time with family and friends and cannot wait to go back 🙂

Thanks for reading! There will most likely be more pictures coming your way with the video uploads, as I didn’t want to make you look at ALL of them at once 😉

Have a beautiful day!

Thinking out Loud & Obsession Alert!

It’s crazy really… working in beauty has left me craving less products. Weird how being surrounded by products 24/7 leaves you uninspired and uncharacteristically “lazy” when it comes to trying new trends or *gasp* removing your makeup.
I sure am glad I don’t work at a froyo store.. oh the terror of no longer wanting to eat the deliciously creamy, dreamy goodness.

Speaking of which, there is an I ❤ Leo froyo place here. Naturally we had to go…

IMG_1188

I also had some carrot juice, cause you always need a healthy balanced meal. Protein and veg for the win!

IMG_1183
Moving on, I have discovered some products I hope will be hopping on to my ever-growing (albeit more slowly) collection of goodies.

This eyeliner from my recent reblog: I have never tried anything but the nail polish by Chanel and I believe it is high time I take a leap of faith 😉

This nail polish I mentioned on Monday. Still love it – still want it.

Now for some random thoughts for Thinking out Loud:

  1. THE SWISS TEAM MADE IT INTO THE NEXT ROUND IN THE WORLD CUP! In absolute patriotic manner, I made a tomato mozzarella salad a few weeks ago for their first game and designed my plate to look like the Swiss flag:

IMG_1201

I then added basil and cream of balsamico which turned my patriotic contribution into a work of art 😉

IMG_1202

Oh and you guys… I ate gluten-free chickpea gnocchi on the side! It was ok-ish, but I was just so in love with the idea of chickpea gnocchi I just had to share this with you!

IMG_1205

Too bad the Iranian team didn’t make it any further… I was totally ready to eat loads of rice and yoghurt to celebrate.. now I’ll have to eat it to cheer me up… so win/win on the food front, I guess?

2.  Another current obsession: fresh juice. There is a Chiquita juice stand at the train station, and when I don’t know what I want to eat on my train ride back to Zurich, I get myself a papaya, ginger, carrot smoothie with add ins like aloe vera or propolis.

IMG_1174

IMG_1176

Makes for one happy train traveller 😉

3.  Oh and another thing: I  AM IN LOVE WITH JOMA JEWELLERY! I found the cutest bracelet the other day and absolutely had to have it…

IMG_1180Anything with the word princess always takes me back to this ecard. Always.

MjAxMi1hOTYzOGQ4MzQxMjRkNmE4

But seriously though…

Joma Jewellery also has a few other cute bracelets I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection…I’m such a sucker for cutesie things with fun little sentences and meanings…

4.  Another love/obsession: This song

IMG_1177

It’s so PWEEEETTYYYY! I listen to it often while stretching after my intense workouts..

5.  Speaking of which, I’m doing super-well with my fitness goals! (Not so much with my nutrition because we have had TONS of press events lately, but more on that in another post!)

I am so happy that my body is getting used to the exercise i.e. my fat burn has increased since my heart rate is slowly becoming more “athletic”. I think I’m finally ready to venture in to the world of Crossfit! I seriously cannot wait to join, but still desperately working on my pull-up!

IMG_1236

IMG_1265

IMG_1220And this wouldn’t be a Thinking out Loud post without some beautiful pictures of the sky from my travels.

IMG_1228

IMG_1233Oh and on a final note: This dog! He loves cars! I can’t get enough of the cuteness 🙂

I miss my Puppy

Dear Blog World,

IMG_0102

With a heavy heart I regret to share this devastating news with you. A week ago today, our precious best friend, cuddle bear and pillow-hogger found her way to doggy heaven. Her passing came as an extreme shock to me – it wasn’t necessary, nor expected. Now, seven days later, still with tears streaming down my face, I’m typing this post in loving memory of Bala, the ever-hungry princess who always managed to cheer me up with her naughty yet loving personality. Sadly, her hungry nature led to the two operations that caused her fleeting strength to live. She chewed and swallowed some sticks on one of our walks and needed immediate care – the first operation left us with high hopes, but after three days an infection was traced and she needed to be treated again. It was all too much for her.

IMG_1445My heart is broken and will forever be missing a large and important chunk. I miss her greatly and wish her sister Seti all the strength to cope without her “partner in crime”

2012-08-15 19.17.55Sleep is not the same without having to shove a big, furry teddy bear off your pillows in order to get comfortable.

IMG_0494

Forever in my memory ❤

I made cookies! :)

Life – it has recently taken over in the kind of way that leaves you longing for your bed where you could curl up and watch Will and Grace reruns. Things have been all over the place lately, both good and bad, and it was hard to find time to sit down and type…

For example, my little cuddly Bala had to be operated on last Thursday. She wasn’t feeling well after one of our walks and after a trip to the vet, I had realised she had eaten a lot of wood.. not good.

IMG_1405Thankfully she is doing a lot better.

With her at the hospital, I’ve been spending a lot of time at home with the other munchkin so that she wouldn’t get lonely. It’s weird having only one dog at home and I find myself including her in a lot more of my activities; we watch TV shows together, we eat our meals together and she even sat in the kitchen while I was baking cookies! 🙂

IMG_1400I followed this recipe, not adding the raspberries and using peanut butter, and they turned out super healthy and super yummy!

IMG_1402Another thing keeping me busy were my driving lessons!

IMG_0987..which came to an end yesterday!

I PASSED MY TEST 🙂

And the last thing keeping me away from blogging was trying to figure out what I will be studying this September. I’ve been reading descriptions, checking lecture times and gazing far into my soul to figure out what it is I really want to do… it’s tough work!

Things will hopefully return back to normal soon. I have a lot of plans for the blog and can’t wait to share them with you!

Hope you are having a great Tuesday!

With attitude and nail polish, Anoushé xoxo
