Chocolate Brownie Protein Smoothie

IMG_1119New Year, New You!

IMG_1115I don’t know about you, but I do not plan on resolving to eat less chocolate in the new year.

IMG_1114I just plan on tweaking my recipes to make them super healthy so that I can eat them every day. Just like with this chocolate brownie smoothie!

IMG_1116Just like my strawberry cheesecake protein smoothie, this smoothie is protein-packed and good for you! Plus, it has raw cocoa powder in it – healthy antioxidants that keep you happy and healthy. 🙂 Chocolate = healthy? yay!

IMG_1117This smoothie tastes a lot like a chunky, chewy, chocolatey, fudgey brownie. So go ahead, make it. NOW! 🙂 It’s a perfectly healthy way to start the new year and it contains loads of good for you fats, fruit and protein!

I think I’m officially a walking Dough Ball

Ahhhh Christmas. It’s a glorious time of year. People are in a good mood, the streets turn in to magical wonderlands and there is plenty of festive food to feast on.

And plenty can easily be replaced by oodles of, heaps of, or a cornucopia of food!

Persian Rice

Persian Rice

Enter: the feeling of being a “dough ball”

I’m generally someone who thrives on eating loads and loads of fruits and vegetables. In keeping with the “big words” used above, you could say I eat a plethora of them. Practicing control with healthy foods like those was never necessary and thus, I have no self-control when it comes to anything I like…

I just eat, drink and be merry… and let me tell you it really gets to you when you start on the 21st..

But complaints are better the morning after 😉 Let’s relish the deliciousness of this holiday and recap how I celebrated this year – my first Christmas officially not a teenager!

On the 24th my mom and I celebrated with family friends. We’ve spent the last three Christmases there and it’s starting to become a real tradition.

I went for a glamour/chic look of a pale pink lacy dress, leopard print shoes, pink blazer…

..and lots and lots of mascara!

IMG_1037We ate a wide variety of rice, salad, lentils, sweet potato and much much more! I also made peanut butter truffles and a raspberry frozen treat, but was incapable of remembering to take pictures… they were great though!

I also finally enjoyed some pink champagne! 🙂

On the 25th we celebrated with my dad.

IMG_1051Leopard print shoes were a theme this Christmas… once open-toed and once just plateaued.

IMG_1042Check out his red slippers! 😀

IMG_1054..mascara was also a theme.. and so was loads and loads of food 😉

On the 26th we went to visit my family in Vienna

We enjoyed a lot of Viennese treats..

IMG_1065Like this Kaiserschmarn 🙂

We also enjoyed a lot from afar 🙂

Vienna is a really beautiful city. I hope to visit it again soon! It reminds me a lot of Paris, with its majestic charm and royal flair.. I seem to have a thing for the romantic, magical ambiance 🙂

IMG_1064Now that I’m back in Zurich, I need to go through a major detox to start feeling hunger again though, and feel less like a dough ball 😉

But of course, I had to have one more Swiss chocolate while enjoying a spectacular view during the flight back.

IMG_1075Oh well, tomorrow is another day 😉

Sunday Blues

Have you ever had days where you wake up and think: This day needs peanut butter? Yes, you heard me.. it’s a thing. Or at least it is for me when I get woken up in the middle of the morning for an impromptu fire drill. (Actually I was just told that it was set off by someone making breakfast…)

Picture happily and peacefully dozing away, counting Z’s and sheep, when suddenly this computerized voice is penetrating your happy place.. warning of danger, emergencies and evacuations. You roll out of bed, not really knowing what is going on, notice your suite-mate running out the door and the flashing lights all over the apartment. Forgetting you are dressed in your dad’s old t-shirt and a pair of shorts too short for public (and with another school’s logo on it!), you grab your phone, keys and shoes and run out the door…

IMG_0416Only to not be able to run far because everyone is walking slowly like zombies, barely awake and not at all amused…

We stood around outside until we realized there was no emergency and it was just a drill; “slightly faster zombie walk back to bed…”

The unpleasant wake-up and inability to fall back asleep got me into surfing the web, where I for some weird and inexplicable reason found out that it was national peanut day on Friday the 13th!

Why didn’t I know this? I am known to my roommates as the girl who eats PB for breakfast and snacks and dinner, emptying a jar a week, purchasing a food processor in order to make my own.. This was big news for me. Huge! So I had to eat some ASAP! And I had just the butter to indulge in: Dark Chocolate Dreams by Peanut Butter and Co. Loving every bite, I decided to check the web for other flavours by that brand, and I came across this student pack with different peanut butters, oats and oatmeal mug! Perfection.. 🙂

In other news, I went into Manhattan yesterday!

I also managed to get lost on the subway trying to get to Soho.

Where I ate goat’s milk froyo, had a Persian feast of Adas Polo and bought a sweater because it was slightly chillier than expected…

IMG_0410And yes I had to have the matching ribbon..

IMG_0413The day seemed to revolve around food because at night I was introduced to Canolli:

IMG_0398Thank god I have daily dance lessons 😉

Week two of classes begin tomorrow, but I am going into the city tomorrow night for a “compulsory” dance performance and hopefully a new cosmetics purchase 😀

Paris day 4

Day 4 began with breakfast at an amazing Café.

IMG_0224Café Eclair to be exact.

The omelette I ordered was the best I have ever had in my life. It was light and fluffy and perfect with a dollop of jam, my peculiar way of enjoying omelettes 🙂

Their pain au chocolat and croissant looked amazing as well, and after devouring our meal we decided to return the next day as well!

After breakfast we head towards Place Vendome via Champs Elyssées to later go on to Hotel Costes, my favorite hotspot in Paris for hot chocolate. I love their lounge music, which is what my mom and I play when we have guests over. The hotel itself is an expansion of the music, with dark, voluptuous, royal colors and waitresses in short mini dresses and the highest plateau shoes.

IMG_0197One of my fondest memories of my trips to Paris was visiting Hotel Costes with my mom. She would drink champagne, and I would sip the most divine hot chocolate. Any time I’m in Paris, I try to keep up this tradition and am never disappointed with the quality 🙂

After hot chocolate we continued down Rue Saint Honoré and were amazed by the expensive boutiques and lines of tourists for anything from Ladurée to Louboutin. I also snuck in a trip to Sephora, where I fell in loooove with Smashbox products.

IMG_0201Check out my hand after testing everything out! 😀

I also found the BB Cream Night Masks intriguing.

IMG_0180And on our walk I found an Avenue I had to pose for a photo with.

IMG_0216My future home base and my favorite city all wrapped in to one 🙂

We spent the rest of the day deciding where to go for dinner and what we wanted to do on our last day.

Snacks of the Week

This week my dance schedule went topsy-turvy. We had a small emergency at home and I had to put my classes on hold. Everything’s better now though so no need to worry.

Monday I was in great need of fresh and vitamin-rich foods after my not so clean weekend eating (fun fair food included). I loaded up on plenty of fruits and veg and was planning on eating tofu before ballet. When that wasn’t possible, I ended up eating a massive plate of Delicorn “Geschnetzeltes” with a sweet and sour Greek yoghurt dip for a late dinner instead.

mhmmmm Greeky

On Tuesday I still wasn’t sure about dance class (actually Tuesday I go to stretch), but noticed after a very late lunch that I had the time to go. My pre-stretching meal therefore ended up being my lunch consisting of green curry tofu with looooads of jasmine rice and a papaya salad. It definitely filled me up, but if it had been a regular dance class – jumps included – I don’t think my stomach would’ve coped! 😉

Som Tam

Wednesday my schedule was back to normal, and so were my snacks: creamy earl grey oats, too filling to finish, but prepped me for my lesson (I ate the rest after dinner as dessert ;))

look at them oats!

look at them oats!

Thursday, class was going to be less strenuous so I decided to tone down the carbs and chose a high protein snack; egg white omelette with tomatoes and onion. For breakfast I ate some Greek yoghurt and some quark and also devoured plenty of nectarines.

I also enjoyed a few indulgences this week…

truuuuuuuuffle :)

truuuuuuuuffle 🙂

yes that cake was AMAAAAAAHZING. I still have some more left over, as it is a very rich cake. I also mainly just eat the top part of it as I am more a filling over pastry fan (yes I would also be one of those people, picking the cookie dough out of ice cream and the chocolate chips out of cookies, leaving the rest to just sit there, unloved..;))

I have also found two nut butters I luuuuuuuurv and wish to recreate and healthify (they have unnecessary amounts of palm oil added in to them which is stupid because nuts have enough of their own oil…)

I’ve so far found a recipe for the one on the left.

Those two indulgences started off a major indulgent weekend that I just got back from…stay tuned to find out why 😉

..of oats and ‘fondu’: Ferrero Rocher Oats

Hands up if you enjoy Nutella.

Now, how many of you stopped buying it when you heard about all the terribly unhealthy ingredients Ferrero was never mentioning on the ingredient list of everyones favorite chocolate hazelnut spread? I for one was shocked! All that hazelnut-chocolaty goodness, and I would never be able to trust it again! But – although I would never personally buy Nutella again (my boyfriend does that for me ;), I’m no hypocrite…) – I never lost faith in Ferrero as a brand. They specialize in all things hazelnut and chocolate, and let’s be honest, all these knock-off products, albeit without any of the additives, are nothing compared to the original!

Luckily for me, they are also the proud producers of a Nutella tasting, crispy, creamy chocolate, hazelnut praline combo! Do you follow? I’m talking about Ferrero Rocher ..

source: wikipedia

source: wikipedia

These little treats are definitely among some of my favorite treats – right up there with Raffaello (a coconut praline also by Ferrero), peanut butter with chocolate swirls, Froyo and champagne truffles.

But as with all things sweet and tasty, they must be enjoyed in moderation. This term, something you hear every day at any mention of sugar, is annoying, yes, but it’s also true…If I were to eat a couple of these pralines every day, I would have to do a whole lot more than I already do, to keep the pounds from creeping up on me.. Whereas if I were to occasionally enjoy one or two a whole package (I have no control, and no remorse!), I could actually build it in to a healthy lifestyle..

IMG_0548But I’m not one for “occasions” and want to eat something amazing like a Ferrero Rocher more than just once in a Blue Moon. So I’m going against the system; please welcome a healthy (more or less) breakfast/snack/pre-workout option of this creamy, nutty, chocolaty goodness of a praline. Be a good host and enjoy it daily if you like! Have your cake, and eat it too 😉

Ferrero Rocher Oats (serves 1)

  • ½ cup regular oats
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder (or chocolate powder for a bit more sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut (ode to well with chocolate!) (optional!)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • minimum 1 teaspoon Cinnamon sugar or maple syrup or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Quark or Greek Yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon Cream cheese (creamyyyyy)
  • 1 tablespoon Hazelnut butter
  • 1/3 cup Soy milk

  1. Add all ingredients, except for a splash of milk (need for easy stirring) in a mason jar or Tupperware
  2. Stir well until combined
  3. Add in rest of milk
  4. Cover with lid and shake well
  5. Store in the fridge overnight (or for several hours)
  6. Enjoy!

I took this with me, and enjoyed it on a long tram ride through the city.. 🙂

Questions of the day:

Do you like Nutella? If yes, are you hard-core like me, able to eat it pure, or do you have a certain way of eating it yourself? Do you still buy it, despite its bad rep?
