Manicure Monday: LE SMOKING and LEADING LADY

IMG_1034Everyone enjoys a beautiful ruby-red from time to time.

IMG_1031I’ve always respected the colour red. It has always been a colour associated with being a grown up, and I never felt comfortable wearing it. Pink, coral, maybe even a dark magenta – but never red!

IMG_1033Even today, I can’t wear the classic colour without mixing it up in some funky way. This time, I went with two different shades on both hands – Estée Lauder Le Smoking on one, and a sparkly Essie number called Leading Lady on the other.

IMG_1030

The colours were selected primarily by shade, but looking at their names, they really do fit together. The gorgeous “Leading Lady” accompanied by a dashing “Le Smoking” is a match made in heaven. 😉 Imagine that…

IMG_1027One day, maybe, I’ll feel “grown-up” enough to wear just red. But until then I’ll leave the colour to my mom, who always chooses a nice, classical red over any other colour – in typical grown-up, ladylike fashion – and I’ll stick with the funky blues, greens and lilacs for the time being.

I think I’m officially a walking Dough Ball

Ahhhh Christmas. It’s a glorious time of year. People are in a good mood, the streets turn in to magical wonderlands and there is plenty of festive food to feast on.

IMG_1041

And plenty can easily be replaced by oodles of, heaps of, or a cornucopia of food!

IMG_1045

Persian Rice

Persian Rice

Enter: the feeling of being a “dough ball”

IMG_1050

I’m generally someone who thrives on eating loads and loads of fruits and vegetables. In keeping with the “big words” used above, you could say I eat a plethora of them. Practicing control with healthy foods like those was never necessary and thus, I have no self-control when it comes to anything I like…

IMG_1044

I just eat, drink and be merry… and let me tell you it really gets to you when you start on the 21st..

IMG_1074

But complaints are better the morning after 😉 Let’s relish the deliciousness of this holiday and recap how I celebrated this year – my first Christmas officially not a teenager!

On the 24th my mom and I celebrated with family friends. We’ve spent the last three Christmases there and it’s starting to become a real tradition.

IMG_1036

I went for a glamour/chic look of a pale pink lacy dress, leopard print shoes, pink blazer…

IMG_1040

..and lots and lots of mascara!

IMG_1037We ate a wide variety of rice, salad, lentils, sweet potato and much much more! I also made peanut butter truffles and a raspberry frozen treat, but was incapable of remembering to take pictures… they were great though!

IMG_1039

I also finally enjoyed some pink champagne! 🙂

On the 25th we celebrated with my dad.

IMG_1051Leopard print shoes were a theme this Christmas… once open-toed and once just plateaued.

IMG_1042Check out his red slippers! 😀

IMG_1054..mascara was also a theme.. and so was loads and loads of food 😉

IMG_1048

On the 26th we went to visit my family in Vienna

IMG_1070

We enjoyed a lot of Viennese treats..

IMG_1065Like this Kaiserschmarn 🙂

IMG_1062

We also enjoyed a lot from afar 🙂

IMG_1067

IMG_1071

Vienna is a really beautiful city. I hope to visit it again soon! It reminds me a lot of Paris, with its majestic charm and royal flair.. I seem to have a thing for the romantic, magical ambiance 🙂

IMG_1066

IMG_1064Now that I’m back in Zurich, I need to go through a major detox to start feeling hunger again though, and feel less like a dough ball 😉

But of course, I had to have one more Swiss chocolate while enjoying a spectacular view during the flight back.

IMG_1076

IMG_1075Oh well, tomorrow is another day 😉

Pre-Birthday Manicure Touch Up

As you may have read here, I got my nails done in Bronxville last week. The colour was IMG_0897

and I’ve really been enjoying it! It’s a refreshing, minty blue that brings a bit of pastel into the dark and gloomy rainy days of Zurich.

IMG_0873Since this was a week ago, and I generally pick at my nails too much (a habit that I must stop!), my manicure has begun to chip in some places. Overall it still looks nice, but there are some spaces that could use some refilling..

IMG_0876Now, tomorrow is my birthday (ahhh FREAK OUT)  and I did not want to remove a perfectly good manicure to then apply polish half-heartedly, and imperfectly, myself.

Good thing I’m obsessed with polish and have nearly the exact same colour by Nails Inc.! 😉

IMG_0972This nail polish is meant to give off a “leathery effect” which in other words is very… forgiving. Yes, my nails might look like I did them right before sleeping and the polish has now been squished ever so slightly by my endless tossing and turning during the night (which oftentimes is really the case), but feel the polish. Go on, feel it! It’s leathery… ouuuuuuuuuuu nice

IMG_0976This is my first Nails Inc. purchase. The polishes don’t carry spectacular names or fluffy brushes, but the selection of colours is endless AND they have super cool effects that I haven’t seen very many other polish makers create!

Me = dazzled! (and sold..they’re not very expensive!)

IMG_0978Here you can see the little “touch up”. Not too shabby, eh?

IMG_0984Light Leathery Blue

IMG_0982Manicure… Friday? I promise to become a bit more consistent again! Let me settle in a little 🙂

Current Craze: Glitter

Tis the season for all things alight, sparkly and glittery!

IMG_0887And I’m not just speaking about the holiday lights and Christmas decorations! “All that glitters is gold”  also goes for makeup! From shimmering eyeshadow to glittery eyeliner, shiny lip gloss and luminous highlighters – it’s time to sparkle and shine and give the beautiful Christmas lights a run for their money 😉

I currently have a few favourites that I use regularly when I go out or need a glittery pick me up (sparkles make me feel all princessy ;)). I’ve also noticed a general increase in my use of glitter during the holiday season…

I mix this product by Becca into my foundation to add a little oomph.

IMG_0901It is a highlighter and gives off a hint of shimmer on my face. I chose to mix it in to my basic foundation, but you can also use it on its own as a skin brightener when you don’t want to wear any makeup, or as a highlighter on your cheekbones to add a shimmering accent instead of blush or bronzer. It gives a nice gleam to a Vitamin D lacking face, making you look awake and fresh whenever light hits it – perfect for the Winter!

Next I have a few products that I have already been using for many, many years. Some are more suited for holidays and others are, like the Becca shimmering skin perfector above, great additions to my daily routine.

IMG_0907

I have always been a fan of the Body Shop. Their Body Butters, lotions and shower gels have always been staples on my bathroom shelf, especially after my 13th birthday when no one knew what to get me and The Body Shop was the easiest and most enjoyable present they could think of. I got so many products, that some are still unopened and on my shelf! Crazy..

Anyhow, the one product I always make sure to stock up on in the winter is the shimmering body lotion. I mix it with regular body butter to add some sparkle to any exposed skin. My favourite scent is Vanilla, which is probably obvious as it’s the only one that is nearly empty (I’ve had these bottles for over a year now..)

IMG_0908

The Body Shop truly understands my passion and craving for sparkly glitter this time of year. Why else would they release a shimmering product for the face, and a glitter spritzer exactly a month or so before Christmas?

IMG_0912These shimmer pearls are beautiful and add a hint of colour and shimmer with each brush stroke. I purchased this after falling in love with my absolute favourite Guerlain Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder, but not in love with its price tag.

IMG_0909

Whenever I open up the pretty, princess case, I enjoy the light, flowery scent and the beauty of the pearls. The various colours make for an even, lightly blushing shimmer, and the powder never gets stuck on the brush, read: no cake-y look! C’est magnifique! To save this glorious product though, I’ve been dialling back the use and replaced it with the less expensive, more shimmering version by the Body Shop – which is a win/win as more glitter is perfect right now 🙂

IMG_0911Once you have your basic shimmer covered, you sometimes need a bit more glitter. I often like to spray a bit in my hair for a bit of a va-va-voom effect when I go out.

IMG_0913I bought the one on the left a few years ago and use it sparingly. The one on the right was a present. I absolutely adore the vintage-glam feel of the bottle – they’re perfect bathroom decoration! I’ve only ever used them on their own, but wonder what they would look like mixed. Both colours work well with my dark brown hair, and add a bit of extra twinkle when I want to feel extra special 🙂

IMG_0914

Question of the Day: Do you add in more glittery products around the holiday season?

Therapy for the Conceal-a-holic

As you could expect, healthy recipes have been on my mind lately. Due to lack of time however, I know it isn’t realistic for me to spend a lot of time meal-planning, shopping and cooking. I know myself too well, and I know that once I get to a Whole Foods, or any health food store, I generally want to meander about and look for the next best thing, so I avoid it and bookmark everything I plan to make over Christmas 😉

Like this Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

I’ve also been hoping to try these Fudgy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Brownies

Oh and I have an ever-growing wish list, like this Lush Facemask

Or anything from the Marc Jacobs Beauty Collection I’m especially in Love with his nail polish Le Charme, or Oui, and adore the eyeliner.. and everything else!!

Givenchy has done it again..this mascara has been tried and tested in mini. Shall I just purchase an early Christmas present for myself and ask my family for love and gluten-free food instead?

My, oh my, being much more into sports means I want the fashionable territory.. Lulu Lemon anyone?

Forever 21, forever my fav

..to be continued 😉
