Manicure Monday

Happy Easter Monday!

Was the Easter Bunny good to you this year? 🙂

Living as a jet setter and traveling between Munich and Zurich is turning me into an adult. I start to miss traditions I once adored as a child, one of which was waking up Easter morning in my nighty, grabbing a basket, pulling on some boots but forgetting a coat in the mild, mostly rainy weather and running about in the garden and all through the house in search for chocolate eggs, the dogs hot on my tail.

The Easter Bunny took its job super-seriously when it came to me, the only child chocoholic. It didn’t bring me plain Swiss chocolate my parents could’ve easily bought and hidden for me, oh no: Everyone’s favourite bunny brought me Cadbury Creme Eggs, Aero Chocolates and Starburst Jelly Beans… my English-born self oozing with happiness upon the first bite of artificial heaven before 9am.

There were few days my nutritionist-mom would allow such behaviour, and having a sweet-tooth herself, Easter (and Christmas too for that matter) was a free pass to eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I ask myself now why I have portion-control problems 😉

Life was good when you had Creme Eggs to devour. I bask in these memories now while I’m jiggling my slightly too bootylicious behind into my skin-tight blue jeans, not even daring to leave the house in nothing but immaculate clothes and glowing makeup.

I reminisced those good old days of munching on chocolaty goodness in my rose-studded nighty while I was at the Lindt Factory this weekend, purchasing chocolates for my parents and closest friends. I was excited to find their favourite chocolates, looking forward to seeing the surprised looks on their faces and couldn’t wait to see if they liked the new “limited edition” chocolates I found that weren’t in stores yet. Only when I jumped back into the car, my pride and glory chocolates in the back, did I realise I was the grown-up buying chocolate now, the one dreading the Easter weight-gain, the one hoping to have purchased enough for everyone… It dawned on me that I have changed.

I used to not be able to fall asleep at night in wake of the chocolaty morning ahead, imagining all that I was going to eat, not a single worry about whether I should or should not have that 5th egg or second handful of jelly beans. Whatever wasn’t eaten would either be melted into a chocolate fondue or brought to school the next Tuesday…

And suddenly, I was scared; I have officially entered the “Easter bunny Undercover agent” territory where the joy of giving outweighs the childish longing to receive. Where Easter doesn’t just happen, it has to be planned otherwise no one gets any chocolate (yes, I know it isn’t about the chocolate, but for me it was THE sweet holiday). I’ve been having similar sudden “panic” moments the past few months and I could never explain why. I always thought it was my fear of being alone in Munich, not wanting to lose touch with my home base, but now I think it’s more than just that. I think I’m scared of letting go of my childhood.. with every train ride back to a city where no one knows my name I’m becoming a tad bit more independent – and it’s freaky how that just happens without me really realising it! I got myself this job, I’m looking for an apartment on my own and I’m doing all of my own shopping and cooking.. not really a big deal, but it is.

Anyhow, my slight panic soon was calmed when my father presented me with this cute race car bunny:

I was really excited because I got him the exact same bunny in green when that chocolatier opened a few years ago. It was a present that linked my new-found adulthood (I received one Easter bunny that is more of a work of art than something to eat) to my fond, lingering teenage memories and really helped calm my worries… for now 🙂

Now, enough about me and more about nails!

Remember last week’s polish? Well I Easterified it up by adding some pink sparkles and glitter 🙂

The brand is called GOSH, and I do believe these nails are a bit.. OH MY GAWWWSH.

IMG_1561They made me think of speckled Easter Eggs.. the Cadbury ones that I also devoured happily as a child 😉

Hope you had a great weekend and talk soon!

Ch ch ch ch CHEESECAKE

Most people spending a lot of time travelling from place to place tend to want to relax when they finally get to sleep in their own bed at home. With my internship ending, I almost expected myself to spend the next free week in bed, catching up with the Real Housewives, in a club, dancing my feet off, or at the gym/in ballet class, pirouetting and dreaming of choreographic possibilities…

But then I saw this recipe on Nichola’s Instagram, and I just couldn’t NOT make it. This started a series of cooking escapades, because for the first time ever since being interested in healthy cooking, I finally had hours to spare to actually test one of the many recipes I found on all of my favourite blogs! And so the cooking and baking began… and I couldn’t be stopped…

I first made this healthy cheesecake. I followed Nic’s recipe more or less, but added maple syrup into the cream cheese instead of granulated sweetener. It turned out marvelous.

I ate half of it immediately…

…with my best friend of course. But still – major cheesecake binge. Oh, why must I LUUURV cheesecake so much…WHY!

It was sort of healthy though, so I felt good about myself… and proceeded to eat the rest on Sunday!

*I will never learn*

The next thing I made was a vegan chocolate mousse/frosting shot that I pinned aaaaaages ago..

It was guuuuuuuuuud!

I have since made another one, and tweaked the original recipe quite a bit. Stay tuned for that delicious deliciousness 😉

Also eaten this weekend was quinoa and cheeze!  I had just seen this recipe last week and already it’s been tried and tested! Phewwww I cannot handle my efficiency 😉 I wonder what I’m going to do next! I’m unstoppable!

Served up with broccoli on the side 🙂

I honestly don’t know what’s gotten into me. Although, come to think of it, I am generally someone who strives more when everything is structured… and with an amazing internship to keep me ecstatic every day, no wonder I feel like I’m on cloud nine and walking on air!

Or maybe it’s the weather – I always get so much more done when the sun is out; I get to tank up on loads of vitamin D and thus exude happy endorphins! I also got to the gym twice the week and am going to dance nearly every night!

Have a fantabulous and fulfilled day!

Salted Chocolate Raspberry Brownie Oatmeal

You guys…

Remember that one time I went totally crazy and put avocado in to my smoothie? Well…

Photo on 24-01-14 at 15.39

Oops I did it again… only this time I put it into Oatmeal!

Photo on 24-01-14 at 15.52 #2I got the inspiration for this rad oatmeal from none other than the Oatmeal Artist herself. Her version is baked, but that didn’t stop me from using similar ingredients and cooking them in a pot!

Photo on 24-01-14 at 15.51I’ve always loved the combination of nut butter and raspberry. I’ve also always loved chocolate and raspberry. Did you know that when you combine cocoa with almond butter it tastes sort of like a brownie? And then you throw some raspberry jam in there and you get an oatmeal so spectacular that it reminds you of these brownies I made a few years ago for Valentine’s day…

Speaking of which, I might just have to make those again this year and eat the whole pan myself while watching Bridget Jones (#foreveralone)

Photo on 24-01-14 at 15.39 #3Anyhoo, these oats were great! I ate them before going to Barre à Terre and Jazz. That’s right, I went back to dance! It’s been a month since I’ve danced, and a few months since I’ve gone to my favourite studio, but the old me is back! I’ve gone to dance a couple of times since last Friday and am hooked again… sadly however, I’ve been neglecting the gym…

Stay tuned for this weeks Funky Friday where I will be giving a recap 🙂

Pomegranate and Dark Chocolate Overnight Oats

Guess who is back on a clean eating spree..

IMG_0360Yup. I have officially eaten one too many sweet potato fries, just enough chocolate chip cookies, and a bit too much Greek yoghurt. I have officially decided to go back to basics.

The idea came to me while reading the Oatmeal Artist’s blog as part of my morning blog-reading routine and I came across her Pomegranate Müesli. The first thing I thought of was, my Iranian side would love the pomegranate part of that! My second thought was, my crazy health food obsessed self would actually eat that. And my third thought was: I should make this before a hectic day at college!

That was a few weeks ago…

IMG_0357I ended up finally pursuing my creativity in oatmeal making when I decided to cut all the crap out of my life; no more processed anything, no negativity, and no more sweet potato fries! So when I took a trip to the store and found pomegranate arils, ready to eat, I knew the time had come…

IMG_0362Pomegranate + Dark chocolate chips… heaven!

IMG_0357I enjoyed my Müsli at the place we call the “pub” before contemporary on Wednesday. It was a good day…

Pomegranate and Chocolate Overnight Oats

  • 1 tablespoon chia seed and flax-seed, ground
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter (I used cookie dough flavour!!! will tell you more later ;))
  • pomegranate arils
  • bittersweet chocolate chips
  1. Mix the oats, ground flax seeds, cocoa, milk and peanut butter
  2. shake until blended well
  3. store overnight
  4. before eating add pomegranate and chocolate

Failed Brownie Baking and Pink Flowers

Heeeelloooo World, how was your week?

I had a pretty awesome time these past few days; extremely sporty as well for a school that is not praised for its teams…

IMG_0320The basketball team introduced themselves to us at this event called Midnight Madness last Monday. We also got to know our mascot – the Gryphon (which is still unnamed. Any ideas for a name?)

I have also been to a couple of soccer games.

Go me and showing school spirit! 😉

Speaking of cheer, look at these cupcakes:

IMG_0344I MUST make them for Halloween, but so far my baking attempts have not succeeded in any way.. hence my blog post title.. The photo I took of the Protein Brownies I tried to make didn’t even come out. It turns pitch black whenever I try to open it; that’s how bad they were. Note to self: try the protein powder before attempting to incorporate it in to brownies. The result might taste better – maybe. I tried to follow a mixture of this and this recipe, and their’s came out well…let me know if one of you have better results? Maybe it was because I didn’t add any cocoa..

In better food news, there is this place here in Bronxville called Dumpling and Noodle that I have been frequenting on many a girl’s night. This past visit I had a great tasting red basil tofu dish with brown rice.

IMG_0346Very satisfactory and healthy! 🙂

In dance news, one of my friends was wearing the cutest shirt ever in improv the other day!

IMG_0352It says I love you to the moon and back! I absolutely love the book “Guess how much I love you”. I grew up with it and know it by heart, so I really enjoyed her shirt with the quote on it 🙂 Also Sarah is one of the nicest people ever and I think the shirt and her go well together 🙂 Adorable!

I also got be the inspiration for a few spontaneous dance shots:

IMG_0348…and received some of the most beautiful flowers from a secret admirer 😉

I can’t believe it’s already the end of the week! But you know what that means…Tomorrow will be Manicure Monday! Here is a taste of the polish I will be speaking admirably of:

It’ll be my first Butter London manicure post! Exciting 😉

Weekend Things

Time flies when you are having fun. Time also flies when you are at a liberal arts college and you seem to have come to the conclusion that you will be majoring in procrastination…

Either way, my literature-intense studies in both French and Romanticism are getting the better of me at times, and today I found myself pinching myself to stay awake.  College life..

..or was it the 9 am Spongebob wake-up calls I received this past weekend when my father came to visit?! Oh how I had missed the high-pitched squealing laughter of that yellow square-panted sponge. It really took me back to those weekends growing up when my 9-year-old self would awaken to  said exact laughter because my father would turn the TV up way too loud and I could hear it clearly across the hall. And it wasn’t only my enjoyment of Spongebob that this visit resurrected, I was also brought a bit of my homeland.

As begged and pleaded for in this past post, I received a green box of Teuscher champagne truffles. Life is better with champagne truffles, and my father knows that (and me) well 🙂

Also part of my care package was Garnier BB Cream concealer! Why don’t they sell that here?

After receiving my wonderful chocolate, we went out for a Mexican Japanese Fusion meal and discovered the massive M&M store!

Sparkly M&Ms!!! OH MYYYY

Hopp Schwiiz! 🙂

After finding the totally americanised Teuscher!

..and nearly ran into Chuck Bass.

We also spent some time in the Lindt store.. chocolate-deficiency? Swiss-deficiency more likely… it’s not like I would ever suddenly crave Hershey’s.

And for those of you who thought I spent my weekend eating chocolate and fantasizing over Gossip Girl, you are definitely not mistaken. Buuuuuut I also did some cultural things.

I went to the MoMa and realised yet again that I lack the understanding for modern art… why can’t we go back to Impressionistic Art. It’s so much more calm and tranquil..and pretty!

We also took some great pictures of the city!

2013-10-06 11.35.58

On Sunday we both had our first New York Bagel (not very impressive on my part since I have been living here for over a month now…)

Say hello to my whole wheat everything bagel with walnut cinnamon cream cheese! Yum!

Coffee was also enjoyed at some point on Sunday..

20131006_103922Later that day, my dad received a tour of my campus, where I finally took the necessary “stand with your college sign” picture.

1378300_10153358576870245_708614959_nI guess I belong here now 😉

That was the fun part of my weekend! I also wrote a French essay, rehearsed for a dance performance I will elaborate on a bit later and read and read and read until my eyeballs hated me. Maybe college life is a larger problem than Spongebob after all 😉
