We don’t sleep – Weekend Recap

After being in Munich for the past 3 weeks and travelling every weekend with my dad to visit friends and family, I was looking forward to a weekend with my friends back home in Zürich. Despite knowing many amazing people all over the world, Zürich will always be where I am happiest (and yes this may partially be because I know the city like no other and grew up here. I know I would need to spend major quality time with my next “chosen home” to really be able to know where I belong, but for now it’s Zürich).

IMG_1652

As soon as I got back to the apartment, I started up Spotify and listened to “Small Bump” by Ed Sheeran on repeat while starting the grueling task of washing 3 weeks worth of laundry…

IMG_1659

There were a few more loads in the bathroom…

It was a bit overwhelming to start doing this much laundry at 11 pm… so I made myself some banana protein ice cream for motivation and fell into bed around 1. I make a point of trying to eat all my favorite foods while back home and used being up this late as the perfect excuse for a midnight snack 🙂 I don’t really feel comfortable using the kitchen much in Munich and it’s been hard to keep up with my healthy eating habits…Going back to my favourite ways at home is one thing I’m looking forward to after my internship (but I will really really miss my job 😦 )

I woke up early on Saturday for brunch with this beauty at Le Pain Quotidien:

IMG_1844

I normally have oatmeal and/or a pain au chocolat (they are divine here!) but decided against the “non-stop hunger” that wheat causes me because I had a dance class later in the day. Their scrambled eggs and fruit salad were nearly as great, but I did miss their White Chocolate spread 😉

After dance and yoga I met up with another friend for a Cool Lime Refresha at Starbucks. I hadn’t seen him in FOREVER and it was great to catch up. I also managed to squeeze in some grocery shopping before running home to get changed for dinner with two of the best girls in the world.

fotoThis is an old picture from our 3 week trip to Oxford with our class 4 years ago. It’s high time to take a new picture, my two better thirds 😀 ❤

We went to Tiffins, and guess what: I remembered to take pictures of the food BEFORE eating! It all looked so scrumptious that I naturally whipped out my phone! #instagram #instinct

After dinner we drove home to finish getting ready for a party. Meanwhile, buckets of rain poured from the sky. Ugh. We spent an hour listening to the latest party songs waiting for the storm to die down before braving the outdoors.

I stayed at the party for about an hour before heading into town for my next “date” #jampacked #sociallife 🙂

IMG_1721These two are the BEST ❤ I hadn’t seen them for too long and it was great catching up and turning night into day on the dance floor. You know you are among your best friends when you don’t notice the lights being turned on in the club and are shocked when the DJ announces his last song because you are too busy boogying to notice it was already 4.30 am…

This has been happening waaaay to frequently lately as I am only ever in town for 2 short nights and never want them to end. My tired body and designer bags under my eyes will thank me when my internship is over though so I can finally fully detox, sleep and meet friends during the day again 🙂

IMG_1467

But a little party never killed nobody, am I right? 🙂

I was so grateful to see some of my closest and most important friends this weekend. I missed my best friend this weekend as she was studying for her finals and hope to catch up with her and the others I didn’t get to see this time round very very soon.

Thanks to all of the fabulous people around me, a weekend in Zürich is without a doubt always absolutely marvelous 🙂

Manicure Monday – Michael Kors Ingénue

Happy Monday everyone!

On second thought, perhaps not so happy… It was hard to get out of bed this morning. What’s worse: When I finally decided to leave my comfy place of rest *boom* that’s exactly when my roommates chose to take a shower… so I hit the snooze button and continued to count Zs, falling into an immediate deep sleep only to wake up in panic a few minutes later because I was going to be late for work.

Conclusion: Set alarm for an earlier time and DO NOT HIT SNOOZE. And maybe try to get more sleep at the weekend…

Snooze buttons are a recipe for disaster… so is going to bed at 6 am (but more on that some other time #foreveryoung 😉 )

IMG_1852

Only nail polish could wake me up this busy Monday morning. I only turn to coffee in dire moments where the power of a beauty product has no effect anymore 😉

IMG_1851

Michael Kors nail polish saved me this time.

IMG_1850“Ingénue” is a beautiful light pink that is easy to apply and dries quickly. It is definitely an “innocent” colour: not too bright, but noticeable. I am a big fan of soft pinks. This one is whiter than others that I have tested and is a great “cheer-up” colour for wet and rainy Summer days 🙂

IMG_1864

This is my first time testing Michael Kors’ polishes. I was not disappointed and hope to test more (maybe also get a bag one day? A girl can dream..)

IMG_1859

IMG_1866

IMG_1855

I also quite like the packaging. It’s elegant and discreet, while still quite glamorous.

IMG_1849

Hope this helped you start your day out right… Pair this nail polish with a Matcha Latte served by a cute barista and you’ll be good to go 😉

Spill it Sunday Fun

I generally don’t post on Sundays. Especially not since living in Munich… I never find inspiration during the 2 short days I get to spend in Zurich (if I come home) and also tend to be running around most of the time trying to get laundry done, get to my favourite dance classes and eat foods I miss when I’m not at home. I also try to soak up as much quality time with my friends and family as I can (read: turn night in to day) before leaving on the last train back to Munich.

So after reading Arman’s Spill it Sunday post while munching on my (paleo – it’s becoming a regular thing now) brunch, having finished most of my laundry and begun procrastinating the packing process, I thought it was high time I post on a Sunday. So here are 5 x 5 answers to this week’s fun questions 🙂

Spill-it-Sunday-option-2-1

Five facts about….your family!

1. Like Arman I am also Iranian (but we prefer to say Persian… like the cat… meooow). I’m also 1/4 American and 1/4 Austrian, was born in London, grew up in Zurich, currently live in Munich and hope to live in Paris one day, New York again, and Seattle maybe too 🙂

2. For a very long time, I was the only girl among my cousins – a princess if you will (Insert Ecard that I am in love with and will not add again here). When I was 14 though I gave my “sole-princess” title up (happily) and got to share being a princess with the cutest little girl ever (who now also has a sister, so we are three girls all together now 🙂 ) All in all I have 4 cousins on my Mom’s side and 6 on my Dad’s

The oldest of all the cousins :)

The oldest of all the cousins 🙂

Candid shot of the girls

All the boys on my Dad's side

All the boys on my Dad’s side

3. Facebook is a thing in my family. My father comments, my Aunt likes his comment and my Grandmother comments on his comment… my friends think they are “cool” for exactly this reason. I not so much.. the dorky comments do make me laugh though and I appreciate that they take time out of their day to stay in touch with me somehow 🙂

4. I have family all over the world. Must be an awesome Persian thing 😉

5. I’m an only child but always wanted to have an older brother.. I was never able to accept that it isn’t biologically possible.

Five facts about…your childhood!

1. I started with Ballet at a very young age and never stopped! I also forced my friends to dance to my choreographies…(still do)

2. I had every child’s dream: My own pony! Her name was Pebbles and I loved her to bits.. she lived an amazingly long life thanks to my mother’s love and care. I stopped riding when I was about 15 in favour of more dance.

3. Growing up in London gave me a British accent. When I met up with my kindergarten friends for the first time after 10 years the first thing I was told was: Oh my god, you are American now! At least I didn’t have a Swiss accent…

4. I played soccer for a short time during primary school – I was goalie. We had tournaments at school and my dad would help me train.

5. I had extreeeeeeeeeeeemely long hair until I decided to cut them “short” (Read: past shoulder-length) when I was 13. My mother still has heart-attacks when I go to the hairdressers… (my hair have never been shorter than past shoulder-length…)

Five facts about…you + school!

1. I didn’t trust myself to speak fluent German until I went to high school because all my friends knew me as the “English” girl. I learned German perfectly well, but only used it either in class or with my friends at after-school activities. It is still weird to speak German to my friends from primary.

2. I went to a maths and science high school. Imagine the disappointment around me when I decided not to pursue a biology or maths degree but a job in beauty.

3. I was a nerd. I had amazing grades and studied hard to get them – I’m proud of it. I lost a bit of that discipline in my last year of school and hope to find it again at Uni.

4. School lunches were the most social activity ever. When we had 2 hours we would go sit by the lake as soon as it was warm enough. I miss those days.

5. I really loved History and Economics, but didn’t enjoy Economics when I attempted to study it for a semester. I started to despise Maths towards the end although I loved it the other few years of school. I blame this on the teachers… either they inspired me or bored me…

Five facts about...you + travel!

1. I love Paris. It is currently my favourite city.

IMG_0216

1146713_10153137752580245_981689093_n

2. I have yet to visit much of Asia or Africa. I have also never set foot on Australian or Canadian soil.

3. I really hope to backpack through Europe with some friends soon.

4. Going to Thailand to eat an authentic Panaeng curry would be a dream come true 😉

5. Despite my family living all over the world, I don’t get out of Zurich often. This must change…

Five facts about…your eating style!

1. I was raised vegetarian. I also went vegan shortly because I thought I could then eat more (I am a major volume eater). Lately I’ve been testing the whole Paleo diet and I find it works quite well. I’ve also started to enjoy fish.

2. I’ve been putting bananas in my smoothies and calling it ice cream before it was cool… #hipstermoment #nanaicecream

img_0940

3. I could eat tofu curries all day err day

Panaeng Curry

Panaeng Curry #foodporn

4. A week should not pass without eating rice at least once. In true Persian fashion, a meal is NEVER complete without rice.

5. I have recently discovered a love for lemon meringue pie, and I really want to paleofy it so I can enjoy it more often (I try to avoid wheat)

Thanks Arman for hosting! Have a beautiful Sunday everyone.

Friday – I’m in Love

…ehhhr well not exactly. But I am in LUUURV with this Body Shop Camomile Eye Make-up Remover.

IMG_1225

So much so that I already stocked up on a few more bottles!

IMG_1223

I read about The Body Shop’s Camomile line a while back and about the benefits of using cleansing oil in your beauty routine, so when I went to pick up their Camomile Cleansing Oil (as promised here, review coming when emptied!), a bottle of this make-up remover “happened” to find its way to the till too… funny how that happens 😉

IMG_1224

I have tested quite a few waterproof removers, and all have had similar results: Most of my (liberally-applied, extreme-volume) mascara still stays put, and I tend to keep on dabbing at my eyes until they become all red and irritated. This may or may not be the reason I “forget” to remove my mascara at night when I want to look flawless the next day – with dry and crumbly day old “extra-oomph” eyelashes. #Iwokeuplikethis

And yes *gasp* I will form premature wrinkles by not removing my makeup. Don’t lecture me. I have already traumatized myself enough and check my skin obsessively. I barely ever wear mascara and the whole not-removing process is thankfully not too frequent….

But again, I digress. Why do I talk/type so much?!

Anyhoo I’m not going to lie and say this makeup remover is better than all others – it’s not. But I do feel that it is slightly more gentle. It is part of the camomile line after all.  Also, I learned a valuable trick all those years ago when I went to Clarins for my first products: It is a good idea to soak a cotton pad in remover before pressing it gently on to the eye for a few minutes. This ensures that most of your eye-makeup gets soaked up and you can avoid the “irritated red skin” that I know all too well. Patience is key my friends.. something I have yet to learn.. cue still frequent occurences of red, blotchy skin. #Iwillneverlearn

I paired this trick with The Body Shop’s Make-up Remover and used the cleansing oil for my face and any leftover eye make-up. I found the combo to work quite well and it is slowly becoming my new – post dance-party – routine 🙂 As mentioned earlier, I have already stocked up on more, so I think the Camomile Waterproof Make-up Remover will be sticking around for a little… it has stolen my heart, not just on Fridays 😉

Complete the removal process with a serum and some eye cream and you are good to go (to bed). Again, an update on my evening routine is in the making, so stay tuned!

Do you have a favourite eye make-up remover?

TGIF guys 😀 I’m going home for the weekend and cannot wait to be back in my “hood”.

Thinking out Loud & Obsession Alert!

It’s crazy really… working in beauty has left me craving less products. Weird how being surrounded by products 24/7 leaves you uninspired and uncharacteristically “lazy” when it comes to trying new trends or *gasp* removing your makeup.
I sure am glad I don’t work at a froyo store.. oh the terror of no longer wanting to eat the deliciously creamy, dreamy goodness.

Speaking of which, there is an I ❤ Leo froyo place here. Naturally we had to go…

IMG_1188

I also had some carrot juice, cause you always need a healthy balanced meal. Protein and veg for the win!

IMG_1183
Moving on, I have discovered some products I hope will be hopping on to my ever-growing (albeit more slowly) collection of goodies.

This eyeliner from my recent reblog: I have never tried anything but the nail polish by Chanel and I believe it is high time I take a leap of faith 😉

This nail polish I mentioned on Monday. Still love it – still want it.

Now for some random thoughts for Thinking out Loud:

  1. THE SWISS TEAM MADE IT INTO THE NEXT ROUND IN THE WORLD CUP! In absolute patriotic manner, I made a tomato mozzarella salad a few weeks ago for their first game and designed my plate to look like the Swiss flag:

IMG_1201

I then added basil and cream of balsamico which turned my patriotic contribution into a work of art 😉

IMG_1202

Oh and you guys… I ate gluten-free chickpea gnocchi on the side! It was ok-ish, but I was just so in love with the idea of chickpea gnocchi I just had to share this with you!

IMG_1205

Too bad the Iranian team didn’t make it any further… I was totally ready to eat loads of rice and yoghurt to celebrate.. now I’ll have to eat it to cheer me up… so win/win on the food front, I guess?

2.  Another current obsession: fresh juice. There is a Chiquita juice stand at the train station, and when I don’t know what I want to eat on my train ride back to Zurich, I get myself a papaya, ginger, carrot smoothie with add ins like aloe vera or propolis.

IMG_1174

IMG_1176

Makes for one happy train traveller 😉

3.  Oh and another thing: I  AM IN LOVE WITH JOMA JEWELLERY! I found the cutest bracelet the other day and absolutely had to have it…

IMG_1180Anything with the word princess always takes me back to this ecard. Always.

MjAxMi1hOTYzOGQ4MzQxMjRkNmE4

But seriously though…

Joma Jewellery also has a few other cute bracelets I wouldn’t mind adding to my collection…I’m such a sucker for cutesie things with fun little sentences and meanings…

4.  Another love/obsession: This song

IMG_1177

It’s so PWEEEETTYYYY! I listen to it often while stretching after my intense workouts..

5.  Speaking of which, I’m doing super-well with my fitness goals! (Not so much with my nutrition because we have had TONS of press events lately, but more on that in another post!)

I am so happy that my body is getting used to the exercise i.e. my fat burn has increased since my heart rate is slowly becoming more “athletic”. I think I’m finally ready to venture in to the world of Crossfit! I seriously cannot wait to join, but still desperately working on my pull-up!

IMG_1236

IMG_1265

IMG_1220And this wouldn’t be a Thinking out Loud post without some beautiful pictures of the sky from my travels.

IMG_1228

IMG_1233Oh and on a final note: This dog! He loves cars! I can’t get enough of the cuteness 🙂

IMG_1230Thank you Amanda for hosting!

Manicure Monday – Fierce, no Fear

I’m wearing heels at work today. For the first time. In forever.

Seriously… I cannot remember the last time I felt this ladylike at work. Probably last year when I was working at the bank (coincidently possibly also the last time I  even wore this outfit as I decided to go with a rather businessy, polka-dotty blue dress today that is not short and skimpy enough too long and I want to say “elegant” for daily wear). The dress was screaming to be worn with heels – it couldn’t bear the idea of flats, so I went with it. And it feels magnificent! Perhaps too magnificent as I tend to enter this “I am wearing heels and I am awesome zone” whenever I wear heels and feel the sudden need to walk as if I were 1.80 m, on a catwalk and in Chanel Couture. #sorrynotsorry

IMG_1262

I’m pretty sure this happens to the best of us. It’s just something about finally being slightly taller that gives me the sudden urge to strut my stuff on my morning walk to work. I can even remember the first time this happened… it was a couple of years ago and I was über-excited to be going to Kaufleuten with some girlfriends. I had never been before and had been looking forward to that night all day. I changed my outfit 1500000 times (still do this, but who doesn’t) and grabbed my only pair of heels that I owned (yeah, I once only had a single pair of simple black heels – still wear them!) I was super-nervous we wouldn’t get in – I was only 16 and unlike my friends hadn’t known to ask anyone older for their ID card… oh the good old days..

IMG_1253

Anyhoo we got in without any problems as some of the people of our group were on the guest list (Woohoo for VIP feelings). We checked our coats and by the time we had done a last lipgloss check (I didn’t wear crazy amounts of mascara back then) I was dying to hit the dance floor. I remember this night as if it were yesterday (although honestly I still always do this): Kid Cudi’s Day ‘n’ Night was playing, I was in the afore-mentioned “I am wearing heels and I am awesome zone” and couldn’t help but STRUT onto the dance floor, flipping my hair off my shoulder while accentuating the “hip-bop” with every step. I was being FIERCE – Just like Tyra Banks taught me while watching all those episodes of America’s next top Model. My friends then grabbed me and pulled me back.

Apparently girls are meant to enter the dance floor together and shouldn’t “strut” or seem confident or be embarrassing.

But I didn’t let their comments get me down: I still do this. And I don’t get held back anymore. It’s become my THANG… I am woman hear me roar.

IMG_1258

But I digress. Oh how memories can be awoken by one single nail polish name. Now do you understand why I love them? 🙂

IMG_1264

Essie’s “fierce, no fear” is a nice brown-grey – which has time and time again proven to be a trend – with highly pigmented colour. It’s a great choice for the Summer. As always, the nail polish is easy to apply and looks all nice and shiny without needing an extra top coat.

IMG_1260

I wish I had worn this that night at the club. Then, when I was pulled back, I could’ve just flung my nail polish in their face and be all like: “fierce, no fear” and continued my strut to where the DJ was standing. If I could turn back time… 😉

IMG_1256

Did you know that Essie also has a nail polish called Strut your Stuff? Where were these nail polishes when I needed them! 🙂

Hope you are having a fantabulous Monday! Strut a little – be fierce – and make Tyra proud 😉

With extra oompf in my attitude and awesomely-fitting nail polish, Anoushé xoxo

Happy Blogiversary!

532363_10152370899355245_703470879_n

I created this blog one year ago today. I can’t believe a year has flown by so quickly and am so thankful for all the beautiful followers this blog has received over the past few months! I am so grateful for this outlet – a place in cyberspace where I can just be me and share my craziness, dance-love and beauty-addiction with you wonderful people. Thank YOU for all your support this last year.

One major milestone during this past year was receiving the Inspirational Blogger Award and thus finally receiving feedback that SOMEBODY out there is actually reading (and perhaps appreciating) what I am contributing to the vast selection of amazing blogs (somebody other than my über-supportive and absolutely lovely family and friends). Other favourite moments were: the day I started Manicure Monday, my first recipe that I would make over and over again, my first link-up, my Liebster Nomination, and my first post about dance (it was really hard to make a selection as – obviously – I LUURV everything, but well you know…).

This blog has accompanied me through my first job, a break-up, my move to New York, a little soul-searching, and my move to Munich. I was able to reflect my life in words and honestly cannot imagine my world without this little online retreat anymore.

If all that weren’t enough, my passion for writing has evolved immensely over this past year leading me to my current internship at a magazine and slowly helping me shape my future. I cannot wait to discover what else life has in stall for me and am planning on sharing every last detail of all the amazingness to come with YOU!

So happy anniversary ..of pirouettes and concealers and may many more come 🙂
