It’s nearly Halloween!

I wish I could lie and tell you that the only reason I am wearing a shiny coat of yellowy-green, puke-colored shiny polish on my nails was in honour of Halloween on Thursday. I wish I could lie and tell you I am not enjoying the metallic colour shimmering when the light hits it. I also wish I could lie and tell you I was doing something cool and fun like testing out ghostly make-up for Thursday and not just wearing a face mask while typing up this post and procrastinating the terribly overdue lecture of Frankenstein..

Photo on 29-10-13 at 21.10But alas, with my infrequent use of actual make up to cover up any imperfections on my face, I have to take even more care of my skin – hence the oatmeal mask. With daily dance and frequent visits to the gym, I basically walk around in a sports bra, Uggs, sweatpants and a loose shirt every single day, living on the bare minimum of 6 hours a sleep a night (due to studies and not because I was up watching Sex and the City while munching on Gluten Free Cookies or doing laundry at 2 am..)

At the Gym

I am still using all the non make-up products I mentioned here and here, but since I am nearly out of the Clarins ones, I’m hoping to find a good alternative to test out and keep my skin looking young and fresh. I’ll probably be trekking to my makeup and skin care mecca (otherwise known as Sephora) sometime soon to find something fun. Any recommendations?

Anyhow, let’s look at the manicure I technically applied on Monday but was too caught up in reading Keats (ha I wish!) that I didn’t manage to post about it..

20131029_203720It’s a OPI for SEPHORA brand and it’s called S-age is just a number! It is part of the Spice Market collection that was on sale for a while. It’s a miniature polish and dried very quickly. Also, because it is a SEPHORA brand and not purely OPI it is much more affordable (Especially on sale ;)).

20131029_202954Please excuse the out of focus pictures. My phone charger spontaneously decides to not work on a now daily basis and I am left with no other option than to take pictures with my laptop’s PhotoBooth..

The polish really matches the whole Halloweeny/Fall/October-soon-November theme 🙂

Tuesdays and Tutus

Guess who is inspired to choreograph again?

I’ve been trying to dance to this song for a while now, but have not managed to get much more than one or two counts of eight. Today however my creative juices were replenished while taking a contemporary class with Enzo Celi, a guest choreographer invited to our school for a workshop lesson. I’m not sure what it was, whether it was his Italian charm that made me remember my passion for choreography, his European flair and accent that reminded me of home, or his free and flowy choreography similar to those I cherish in my memories from my classes back home.

Whatever triggered my creativity, I’m glad it did; school work has slowly been getting to me and on top of that dance was slowly becoming an unnecessary chore and time-waster that I would sometimes even consider skipping (GASP) for an extra hour of sleep or study. Now I’m feeling the total opposite, with any small dance step barely quenching my thirst for new sequences and ideas! I’m all bubbly with energy and constantly eager to get to the studio to dance. I even showed parts of my ideas so far to my friends in my Uggs while walking to class – but come to think of it when don’t I dance in wide open spaces?

I’ll be posting a video of my dance up soon (not in Uggs!) I have an amazing dancer friend here who will be helping me out with the partnering (yes, I am planning it as a pas de deux! :))

Daaaaaahling

Did any of you watch Keeping up Appearances?

IMG_0339Picture a well put-together woman living in the suburbs in England that would love to associate herself with the Queen, constantly on the lookout for the next step up the social ladder, like her rich sister Violet, while trying to forget about her just above working-class sisters Daisy and Rose. Despite her last name being Bucket, she pronounces it “bouquet”; she is obsessed with making herself look more affluent than she really is.

I grew up watching this British sitcom with my parents… and I could only think of her when I laid my eyes on the name of this polish.

IMG_0334

This shade of Butter London is called “Dahling”. Isn’t it daaaaarling? 😉 It’s a posh, darkish pink that would definitely go well with a small dog, a large hat, and a classic Mini in British Racing Green, driving with the top down on the way to visit Prince Harry at a polo game. Yes I can see that happening.. If only it took one fresh coat of varnish to transport you to royal territory. Oh, Kate, tell me, what more did you have to do? 😉 (Speaking of Kate, Butter made a shade I am considering purchasing as well. It’s called “No more waity, Katie” and it’s a soft glittery purple – Prince Charming not included.)

*Sigh*

IMG_0328This was my first time using Butter and I have to say I was slightly thrown off by its packaging: The top has to be pulled off before you can unscrew the brush..

IMG_0338

IMG_0337

IMG_0334(Excuse my attempt to create cool and “pop-arty pictures..)

The colour is strong and doesn’t really need a second or a top coat – it definitely steals the show without much support. I did not enjoy the brush size though – OPI has definitely spoiled me there 😉

Daaaahling, I’m ready for my close-up 😉

Failed Brownie Baking and Pink Flowers

Heeeelloooo World, how was your week?

I had a pretty awesome time these past few days; extremely sporty as well for a school that is not praised for its teams…

IMG_0320The basketball team introduced themselves to us at this event called Midnight Madness last Monday. We also got to know our mascot – the Gryphon (which is still unnamed. Any ideas for a name?)

I have also been to a couple of soccer games.

IMG_0350

Go me and showing school spirit! 😉

Speaking of cheer, look at these cupcakes:

IMG_0344I MUST make them for Halloween, but so far my baking attempts have not succeeded in any way.. hence my blog post title.. The photo I took of the Protein Brownies I tried to make didn’t even come out. It turns pitch black whenever I try to open it; that’s how bad they were. Note to self: try the protein powder before attempting to incorporate it in to brownies. The result might taste better – maybe. I tried to follow a mixture of this and this recipe, and their’s came out well…let me know if one of you have better results? Maybe it was because I didn’t add any cocoa..

In better food news, there is this place here in Bronxville called Dumpling and Noodle that I have been frequenting on many a girl’s night. This past visit I had a great tasting red basil tofu dish with brown rice.

IMG_0349

IMG_0353

IMG_0346Very satisfactory and healthy! 🙂

In dance news, one of my friends was wearing the cutest shirt ever in improv the other day!

IMG_0351

IMG_0352It says I love you to the moon and back! I absolutely love the book “Guess how much I love you”. I grew up with it and know it by heart, so I really enjoyed her shirt with the quote on it 🙂 Also Sarah is one of the nicest people ever and I think the shirt and her go well together 🙂 Adorable!

I also got be the inspiration for a few spontaneous dance shots:

I can’t believe it’s already the end of the week! But you know what that means…Tomorrow will be Manicure Monday! Here is a taste of the polish I will be speaking admirably of:

It’ll be my first Butter London manicure post! Exciting 😉

Scented Nails – a Reason You Might be Called Weird a.k.a Manicure Monday

‘Smell my nails, smell my nails, hey, smell my nails’

IMG_0308This is how I’ve been greeting my friends for the last few days.

Don’t worry I haven’t lost my mind.. again… yet

IMG_0307I am just extremely fascinated by and overly-enjoying my new nail polish from the Sephora Nail Collection line (but seriously, when do I not do this?! overly-enjoy I mean). It is called Pastel Pop and the shade I am flaunting and shoving up people’s noses is 02, Strawberry.

IMG_0310The polish packaging (ha! alliteration) was an eye-catcher to begin with. The pink shade goes on first and then – after screwing that back on – you twist to the other side and apply the shimmery-golden top coat. I found it a bit weird to use, as you actually unscrew the paint pot and not the brush which, in my eyes, is a nail polish spilling accident just waiting to happen… so I asked a friend to help me by casually, and inconspicuously, removing my nail polish from my bag at one of our chilled-out hang out nights, knowing she loves to apply nail polish. Party and get your nails done, while spending time with your friends? Win win! 🙂

IMG_0309

She did an amazing job too! I don’t think my nails have EVER looked this good…

Another friend (who has an amazing voice by the way, and has just released her first music video) took the pictures because my phone was dead. I have the best friends 🙂

IMG_0313This photo is titled the “artsy picture” 😉 Pink nails, polish and shoes! (“Sing: I’m a barbie girl..”)

The beauty of the polish, with its barbie pink and glittery gold top coat, nearly excuses my weird behaviour when I run into people I know.. Maybe being known as the one who starts hyperventilating over a new mascara or the Marc Jacobs line will help them forgive my “smell my nails” behaviour..

But honestly, I don’t really want to excuse myself, because this is so COOOOOOOOOOOL! My actions are totally acceptable and understandable.

Ahh Sephora you have done it again. Chapeau.

Every single time my hand is anywhere near my face I smell this bubblegum strawberry scent and I can barely contain my excitement. I just wanted to spread the luuuuurv for polish by making others feel the same! 😉

If only they had named it something fun… 😉

Therapy for the Conceal-a-Holic

You guuuuuuuuuuuuuuys! I have found some new things to be completely excited by! It’s been a sad time on the make-up/cosmetics front due to the lack of shopping I’ve been exposed to lately, so I am absolutely thrilled to share my latest discoveries with you today!

20131005_162443Marc Jacobs has released his makeup line! Can we please just take a moment and relish in this fantastic occurrence. I have been counting down the minutes for aaaaaages and last week I was finally able to hold his masterpieces in my own two hands.

*heart-melting*

I cannot get over the beauty of the design! Oh and guess what this polish is called.. LE CHARME! ahhhh it’s too cute! I literally dragged my dad into Sephora last Saturday just to show him the amazingness of MJ’s new line! I don’t think he was as excited as I was though.. hmmmm

This has gone on my immediate wish list, along with this mascara. It’s my favorite one, only times 3! Oh the excitement! (tried and tested too! MUST BUY SOON..!)

I am also seriously considering a Butter London purchase of their shade Bossy Boots. Any thoughts on the colour? You can tell it’s mainly awesome and appealing because of its name…

Also, I appreciated the fruit and veg at Union Square. I need to go back and purchase some things!

Also currently in love with: Cycle 20 of America’s next top Model.. scaaary stuff people. What is happening to me??!

Ohhhh and this oatmeal recipe.. I have to start making breakfast again!

Have fun exploring Marc Jacobs you guys! I’m leaving you with his excellence and will bring more amazing things in the next post 🙂
